Evaluating Strategies to Present Colon Cancer Screening Information

This is a study examining the effects of different educational-motivational materials about colorectal cancer screening on perceptions and intentions to get screened. Eligible participants will be randomized to one of three experimental conditions. All participants will be provided information about colon cancer and screening options based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Screen for Life materials. Some participants also will be asked to read a personal narrative about colon cancer screening. This study will determine whether participant's perceptions about and colorectal cancer screening intentions and behaviors differ by which information they read. Participants will complete surveys before, immediately after, and one month after randomization. To assess behavior change, as suggested by grant reviewers and the project officer, we added 6 and 12 month follow up surveys. Adjuvant Aspirin Treatment for Colon Cancer Patients

Following complete resection of their primary tumor, potentially eligible stage II or stage III colon cancer patients will undergo central PIK3CA testing. Patients with somatic mutations will be 2:1 randomized to daily aspirin 100 mg versus placebo for a a maximum of 3 years or until disease recurrence, patient death or withdrawal of consent, whichever occurs first. Patients will be followed up for at least 3 years from the date of surgery. The intake of aspirin or placebo is independent of adjuvant chemotherapy, and does not impact on the indication to give (or not to give) adjuvant chemotherapy.

A 6 microRNA Tool for Stratifying Stage II Colon Cancer of Receiving Adjuvant Chemotherapy

Whether patients with stage II colon cancer should receive adjuvant chemotherapy or not is still on debate.MicroRNA(miRNA) is a promising tool. Investigators invented a tool consisting of 6 miRNA(miR-21、miR-20a-5p、miR-103a-3p、miR-106b-5p、miR-143-5p and miR-215) that was effective to identify one should accept adjuvant chemotherapy or not. Here investigators randomly assign patients to be assessed by classical pathological features or the miRNA tool of determining who should accept chemotherapy. Disease free survival and overall survival are the end points of observation.

Targeted Therapy Directed by Genetic Testing in Treating Patients With Advanced Refractory Solid Tumors, Lymphomas, or Multiple Myeloma (The MATCH Screening Trial)

This phase II MATCH screening and multi-sub-trial studies how well treatment that is directed by genetic testing works in patients with solid tumors, lymphomas, or multiple myelomas that may have spread from where it first started to nearby tissue, lymph nodes, or distant parts of the body (advanced) and does not respond to treatment (refractory). Patients must have progressed following at least one line of standard treatment or for which no agreed upon treatment approach exists. Genetic tests look at the unique genetic material (genes) of patients' tumor cells. Patients with genetic abnormalities (such as mutations, amplifications, or translocations) may benefit more from treatment which targets their tumor's particular genetic abnormality. Identifying these genetic abnormalities first may help doctors plan better treatment for patients with solid tumors, lymphomas, or multiple myeloma.

Enhanced Recovery Program After Laparoscopic Colon Cancer Surgery

An enhanced recovery program has been developed to provide for colon cancer patients faster and more personalized postoperative treatment. Most of the previous studies have showed that the efficacy of the enhanced recovery program on both subjective and objective physical recovery of patients. However, such studies are rarely conducted in South Korea. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of a postoperative enhanced recovery program in patients who underwent laparoscopic colon cancer surgery at a tertiary hospital in Korea.

Nintedanib and Capecitabine in Treating Patients With Refractory Metastatic Colorectal Cancer

This phase I/II trial studies the side effects and best dose of nintedanib when given together with capecitabine and to see how well they work in treating patients with colorectal cancer that has not responded to previous treatment (refractory) and has spread to other places in the body (metastatic). Nintedanib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. It may also block the growth of new blood vessels necessary for tumor growth. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as capecitabine, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Giving nintedanib with capecitabine may be a better treatment for colorectal cancer.
