Nimotuzumab in Combination With TPF(Cisplatin ,Fluorouracil and Docetaxel) for Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Nimotuzumab (hR3) is an humanized monoclonal antibody that recognized an epitope located in the extra cellular domain of the human epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). In phase II clinical trials a combination of Nimotuzumab with chemotherapy or radiation therapy achieved satisfactory therapeutic outcomes in patients with advanced squamous cell carcinoma of head and neck, or glioblastoma. We therefore postulated that Nimotuzumab in combination with conventional definitive chemotherapy might improve the rate of disease control (RDC), progression-free survival (PFS),and overall survival in patients with recurrent and/or metastatic SCCHN , which is a poor-prognosis patient population for whom there is currently no standard treatment approach, we designed this trial to test this hypothesis.

Sym004 in SCCHN Patients Failing Anti-EGFR Based Therapy

The trial is designed as a multi-center, open label Phase 2 trial that investigates the efficacy and safety of Sym004 in subjects with squamous cell cancer of the head and neck (SCCHN). Subjects included must have responded to previous anti-epidermal growth factor receptor (anti-EGFR) monoclonal antibody-based therapy and subsequently become resistant to that therapy. It is believed that Sym004 has the potential to induce tumor responses and provide a superior treatment option to subjects with advanced SCCHN. Symphogen was the sponsor for planning/conducting and reporting results for this trial.

Cisplatin and Radiation Therapy With or Without Carboplatin and Paclitaxel in Patients With Locally Advanced Cervical Cancer

This randomized phase III trial studies how well giving cisplatin and radiation therapy together with or without carboplatin and paclitaxel works in treating patients with cervical cancer has spread from where it started to nearby tissue or lymph nodes. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as cisplatin, carboplatin, and paclitaxel, work in different ways to stop the growth of [cancer/tumor] cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. External radiation therapy uses high-energy x rays to kill tumor cells. Internal radiation uses radioactive material placed directly into or near a tumor to kill tumor cells. It is not yet known whether giving cisplatin and external and internal radiation therapy together with carboplatin and paclitaxel kills more tumor cells.

Study of DCA (Dichloroacetate) in Combination With Cisplatin and Definitive Radiation in Head and Neck Carcinoma

This will be a randomized masked placebo-controlled single-center study to evaluate the effects of Dichloroacetate (DCA) versus placebo given in combination with Cisplatin and radiation treatment in patients with Stage III-IV Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Head and Neck (SCCHN). Fifty subjects will be enrolled and randomly assigned on a 1:1 ratio to DCA or matching placebo given with standard of care treatment consisting of Cisplatin and radiation treatment. Patients will receive DCA/placebo PO or per G-tube twice a day for 8 weeks. The first 6 patients of the total study population will represent a safety lead-in cohort. The results of the safety lead-in of DCA/placebo in combination with Cisplatin and radiation therapy will be evaluated after the 6th patient has completed 8 weeks of therapy. Recruitment of patients will be withheld during safety data analysis.

Evaluation of a Miniaturized Microscope Device for the Detection of Esophageal Squamous Cell Cancer

The overall objective of this study is to determine whether high-resolution imaging of the esophagus during routine diagnostic upper endoscopy can assist clinicians in detecting and discriminating dysplastic (precancerous) areas. This high-resolution microendoscope (HRME) was developed by our collaborators at Rice University and provides > 1000x magnified images of the esophageal mucosa. The purpose of this study is to determine whether this device can be used to enhance the diagnostic accuracy of routine endoscopic screening for squamous cell cancer of the esophagus.

Role of Immune Activation in Response of Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma to Therapy

The purpose of this study is to investigate the role of the immune system in the response of squamous cell cancers of the head and neck to treatment that includes radiation therapy. Current research demonstrates that several natural immune cells and molecules affect the way the body's immune system interacts with a cancerous growth. Some cancers may be related to infection with a virus, such as the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). Studying the activity of the immune system in head and neck cancers, especially cancers related to HPV infections, can provide valuable information to better understand the body's interaction with cancer cells.
