Mental imagery has been used in a variety of pathological instances in support to classical therapeutic treatments. The aim of the present study was to observe the effect of internal Kinesthetic and external Visual Imagery to improve proprioceptive feedback in low back pain. Fifty-five subjects with a history of low back pain were included in two experimental groups who used mental imagery and one control group who did not. The results showed the effectiveness of the Internal Kinesthetic Imagery to improve the accuracy of repositioning of lumbo-sacral spine that may subsequently improve the quality of the proprioceptive input. The possibility to use effectively mental imagery, as a part of proprioceptive rehabilitation process, is the principal outcome of this study.
This research protocol will compare Theramine to a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) in the treatment of chronic back pain. The study will examine the efficacy and tolerability of Theramine alone in patients with chronic back pain in comparison to the NSAID, Naproxen, and the co-administration of Naproxen with Theramine.
Although national expenditures on back pain treatments have increased substantially over the past decade, the health and functional status of persons suffering from back pain has deteriorated. This trial will evaluate the effectiveness, and cost-effectiveness, of a safe and relatively inexpensive "mind-body" therapy that has the potential to provide relief to some of the millions of Americans who continue to suffer from chronic back pain.
NURSE-RCT is a randomized controlled trial which aims at prevention of evolution of chronic low back pain (LBP) and related disability in female nurses. The study investigates the effectiveness and financial feasibility of six months neuromuscular training and counselling, and their combination on LBP, movement dysfunction and fear-avoidance behaviour. The target for neuromuscular training is to reduce movement dysfunction and motor control impairments, caused by trauma and subfailure injuries of spinal ligaments. Training aims at enhancement of motor control of lumbar neutral zone in different positions and movements, balance, coordination, trunk muscle endurance and leg strength. The target for counselling is change in attitudes and behaviour, which help to reduce the fear of pain and encourage to physical activity and other physical tasks. The hypothesis is that together neuromuscular exercise and counselling have a stronger influence on LBP, movement dysfunction and fear-avoidance behaviour than either used alone. Assessments of effectiveness will be conducted after six, 12, and 24 months of the beginning of interventions.
You are asked to take part in this study because you have chronic, non-radicular low back pain. This study is done to investigate the pain relieving effects of the study drug Exalgo (Hydromorphone ER) for people who experience chronic non-radicular low back pain. The purpose of this research is to look at how the study drug can be used to benefit people who experience this type of pain. This is a phase IV study done to study the safety and effectiveness of the drug. At this point the drug has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration and has been studied in more than 2,000 pain patients in clinical trials, including individuals with low back pain. About 36 subjects will take part in this study.
