This study aims to investigate the effectiveness and safety of mesotherapy for the treatment of female pattern alopecia. - Sixty female subjects between 18 and 65 years diagnosed with female pattern hair loss will undergo mesotherapy sessions weekly for ten weeks. - One group will receive 0.5%/2ml minoxidil application and a control group will receive application of placebo (saline 0.9%). - Biopsy of the scalp, trichogram and trichoscopy (Fotofinder) will be performed before and 08 weeks after treatment as a method objective evaluation of the response

Hair disorders, expecialy scarring alopecia were diagnosed by scalp biopsy specimens in horizontal and vertical sections.(1-4) Data on hair density in Thais are lacking, although in Asians have more fewer hairs than whites.(5-7)Howevery, previous study from East Asian just had only one study and the data was more differently from West Asian and whites. Then this study was performed to evaluate hair density in Thais, and compared to previous study.

Phototoxic Doses of Ultraviolet A for Treatment of Alopecia Areata

Alopecia areata (AA) is a disease of the hair follicles with multifactorial etiology and a strong component of autoimmune origin. It is characterized by non-scarring hair loss on the scalp or any hair-bearing surface. Various therapeutic agents have been described for the treatment of AA, but none are curative or preventive. The aim of AA treatment is to suppress the activity of the disease. Phototherapy in the form of topical psoralen and ultraviolet A (PUVA) has been a well documented therapy for AA since 1978. A more recent technique of topical PUVA, namely phototoxic PUVA, has been adopted in two previous studies. Sessions were carried out once every 3 months, and a higher efficacy with more encouraging response rates in comparison to the conventional PUVA therapy has been documented. This assumed upper hand over the conventional PUVA might be due to increasing the amount of UV reaching the hair follicle cells and the surrounding inflammatory cells. Also it has been suggested that it might play a role as a powerful initiating agent of suppression through direct action at the DNA level. However, still the exact effect of this treatment has not been fully clarified.

Vytorin in the Treatment of Alopecia Areata

Subjects, non pregnant/lactating and over 18years old, with 40% alopecia areata will take vytorin (statin/ezetimibe) for 24 or 52 weeks and be monitored for hair regrowth. The investigators hypothesize that Vytorin medication may have an effect on the inflammatory process of alopecia areata. Inactivating the inflammatory process may help in permitting hair regrowth in those subjects.

A Trial of Clobetasol Propionate Versus Hydrocortisone in Children With Alopecia Areata

The use of topical steroids in the treatment of alopecia areata in children is common practice. However, no particular potency of steroid is accepted as the standard treatment due to the paucity of high quality evidence in the dermatology literature to substantiate their use. Two randomized controlled trials exist assessing topical steroid efficacy in this disorder, both have methodological limitations. The question remains as to which topical steroid is safe and efficacious for use. We performed a double blinded controlled trial to assess the usefulness of a class 1 topical steroid (clobestasol proprionate 0.05%) compared with a class 7 topical steroid (hydrocortisone 1%) in children with alopecia areata.
