The Effect of a Mindset Management Approach on Stress Levels in Women With Infertility

The goal of this clinical trial is to test the effect of a mindset management intervention on stress levels in women with infertility. The main question it aims to answer is: Can the Organic Conceptions approach decrease stress levels in women with infertility? Participants in both groups will be asked to complete three surveys at three time points. The intervention group will complete the Organic Conceptions program, while the control group will not complete an intervention. Researchers will compare the intervention group and control group to see if the Organic Conceptions mindset management program decreases stress levels in women with infertility.

Cue Effects in Human Addiction: Pavlovian to Instrumental Transfer

Individuals with substance use disorders (SUD) have to cope with drug-related cues and contexts, which can affect instrumental drug seeking as shown with Pavlovian to instrumental transfer (PIT) paradigms in animals and humans. The investigators aimed to investigate the impact of acute and chronic stress on Pavlovian-to-instrumental transfer (PIT), how PIT it is associated with cognitive control abilities and whether such effects predict losing vs. regaining control in subjects with AUD. Moreover, the investigators aimed to develop a novel full transfer task that assesses both, general and specific PIT to investigate whether specific PIT differs between alcohol use disorder (AUD) and control subjects.

JoyPop Mobile Mental Health App With Indigenous Transitional-Aged Youth

Indigenous youth in Northwestern Ontario who need mental health supports experience longer waits than non-Indigenous youth within the region and when compared to youth in other more urban areas. Limited access and extended waits can exacerbate symptoms, prolong distress, and increase risk for more serious outcomes. Transitional aged youth (i.e., those in their mid-late teens to early twenties) are a particularly vulnerable group. Novel, innovative approaches are urgently needed to provide support for Indigenous youth in Northwestern Ontario. In partnership with Dilico Anishinabek Family Care, the investigators are evaluating the impact of a mental health app (JoyPop) as a tool for Indigenous transitional-aged youth who are waiting for mental health services. The JoyPop app was developed to support improved emotion regulation - a key difficulty for youth presenting with mental health challenges. A two-arm randomized controlled trial (RCT) will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of the app compared to usual practice while Indigenous transitional-aged youth are waiting for mental health services.

Peer Support Groups for Families With an Infant in the NICU

The goal of this observational study is to learn the impact of race, ethnicity, and language matched peer support groups on parental stress, anxiety, and sense of belonging for families who have or have had an infant hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The main questions aim to answer: Do race, ethnicity, and language matched peer support groups decrease parental stress and anxiety and improve sense of belonging of parents while their baby is hospitalized in the NICU? And, are there any changes that should be made to the format of the peer support group sessions? Participants will be invited to attend a peer support group that is matched for race, ethnicity, and language. Participants will have the option of filling out a survey on stress, anxiety, and sense of belonging before and after the peer group session. Additionally, participants will have the option of filling out a satisfaction survey after the peer group session.

The Effects of Virtual Reality Education on Balance, Depression, Anxiety and Stress Parameters

If we examine the demographic data of the 2021 reports of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), we can see that the young population between the ages of 15 and 24 is 12,971,289 people, which is 15.3% of the total population. Considering the proportion of young population in our country, the evaluation of physical activity level has an important place, while the proportion of female university students who achieved sufficient physical activity level according to the scoring of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (UFAA) was 8.5%, while the proportion of male students was 28.1% in previous studies (Arslan 2015). ). We know from previous studies that achieving an adequate level of physical activity directly reduces the body mass index and indirectly reduces the cardiovascular risk associated with obesity (Swift 2018). Exercise reduces depression levels and the effects of depression. Although the neural mechanisms are not very clear, there are some predictions for physical exercise to reduce the level of depression (Gujral 2017). The hippocampus is an important cognitive and sensory centre, and it has been reported that hippocampal volume decreases by 5% in depressed individuals (Cole 2011). Hippocampal volume has been reported to increase rapidly with exercise (Bugg 2012). The brain region most affected in major depressive disorder is the prefrontal cortex. After the prefrontal cortex is affected, symptoms such as negative affect and learned helplessness appear (Pizagalli 2021). Experimental studies in mice have shown that treadmill training creates new synaptic pathways in the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus (Mu 2022). Another brain region affected by depression is the corpus striatum. Loss of corpus striatum volume is observed in patients with major depression (Zhang 2020). The volume of the corpus striatum modulates when physical exercise reaches a sufficient level. (Rotttensteiner 2015). Adequate levels of physical activity not only reduce depression, but also prevent neural dysfunction that can occur as a result of depression. However, young people do not get enough exercise. Based on this fact, we believe that it is necessary to use 3D virtual reality applications to increase physical activity levels and exercise motivation. The aim of our study is to investigate the effect of virtual reality training on balance, depression, anxiety and stress parameters in healthy young people.

Intense stress has harmful effects on the body, contributing to various disorders. Breast cancer patients experience a build-up of stress due to their diagnosis and treatments. Stress can cause epigenetic changes in a cellular level (such as accelerated increase in biological age) that may negatively affect oncological treatments. This study aims to investigate the effect of stress management, specifically the Pythagorean Self-Awareness Intervention, on telomere length in T-leukocytes of breast cancer patients after completing all treatments except hormonal therapy. The study involves self-referred questionnaires, hair cortisol collection, and blood material extraction. Understanding the role of stress management in breast cancer may lead to improved patient outcomes and survival rates.

The Effect and Experience of the Parental Program AFFEKT

This project is the first to evaluate the effect and experience of the parent program AFFEKT, through a randomized controlled trial and qualitative study, within primary health care. The project will recruit 200 parents of children with externalizing behaviors, and evaluate the effect of AFFEKT and psychoeducation versus psychoeducation alone, on children's behaviors and mental health, and the parent's strategies and mental health. Through interviews the experience of AFFEKT will be investigated.

SEE Change Evaluation - Impacts of Personal Agency Training on Ugandan Entrepreneurs

This study is proposed as an individually randomized control trial (RCT) designed to assess the short-term impacts (follow up at six months) of a personal agency training on a range of economic and health outcomes for micro and small entrepreneurs in Western and Central Uganda. Participants will be randomly selected and assigned to either the intervention group (n=400) or wait-listed control group (n=400). The intervention will include the standard Empowered Entrepreneur training curriculum which includes personal agency alongside basic business training that has been developed by the SEE Change team. This training will take place over three consecutive days (approximately 25 hours of content).
