Filter by:Communication and Recovery Enhancement (CARE) is a 2-session early intervention for survivors of recent sexual assault and their supporters that aims to improve supporters' ability to respond effectively. The goal of this pilot trial is to understand the acceptability and preliminary efficacy of two versions of CARE: a version in which survivors and supporters attend both sessions together (dyadic CARE) and a version in which supporters attend sessions alone (supporter-only CARE). Survivors aged 14+ with elevated posttraumatic stress symptoms will enroll with a supporter of their choosing. Dyads will be randomized to dyadic CARE, supporter-only CARE, or waitlist control, and will complete self-report assessments at baseline, post-session-1, and follow-ups (1, 2, and 3 months post-baseline). Results will be used to inform future changes to CARE and determine whether a fully-powered randomized controlled trial is warranted.
This study is a waitlisted randomized controlled trial. We aim to assess the level of compliance for those learning the intervention and to evaluate the impact of the practice on neuropsychological and somatic outcomes using validated scales. Enrollment into the study will be ongoing until we are able to get a sufficient sample size as described in the "Statistical Consideration" section. Upon enrollment and randomization, surveys will be administered to both the intervention and control groups at four time-points: baseline, T2, T3, and T4, each of which are 6 weeks apart. Compliance data will be collected weekly for 12 weeks for both groups.
The proposed study aims to evaluate whether different features of a relaxation room affect how individuals recover from acute stress. This study will use a unique methodology to capture participants' physiological and behavioral measures through a combination of non-invasive technologies, including wearables devices, active sensors, cognitive tasks, and/or subjective questionnaires. Participants will perform a stress induction task, after which they will rest in a relaxation room. Physiological measures and cognitive performance will be recorded throughout the experiment to determine whether features of the relaxation room promote recovery after acute stress. Identifying the occurrence of stress and ways to potentially reduce the effects of stress could lead to novel interventions for helping individuals reduce work-related stress.
Randomized clinical trial that aims to evaluate the impact of the use of a diary in patients and relatives of patients admitted to an ICU in relation to usual practice in terms of health-related quality of life, the post-traumatic stress and anxiety/depression at 2, 6 and 12 months after ICU discharge.
This study will focus on examining effects of stress on long-term mood and cognitive outcomes of late-life depression. It will also example the neural underpinnings of these changes using structural and functional brain imaging. Understanding how effects of stress in older depressed adults, as well as factors that might minimize those effects, lead to particular mood and cognitive outcomes will inform future development of novel prevention strategies.
The number of students with psychological problems is on the rise, due to a combination of increasing performance pressure, high expectations, difficulties handling stress, social pressure, and studying. Spending time in a green space has been shown to have positive effects on the mental and general health. This project aims to alleviate the symptoms of mental fatigue and stress related disorders such as burn out in students by offering a nature-based activity. Participants are asked to take a thirty-minute walk in a nature-based area for five consecutive days, followed by a control period (regular schedule of the participant) for five days, or vice versa. The investigators test stress-related parameters including concentration tests, cognitive tests, cortisol levels, and cardiovascular measurements.
The proposed research and training will allow Dr. Alana Biggers to obtain critical research skills and study a mindfulness meditation program designed to improve sleep and reduce stress in African-American adults with diabetes. If effective, this program may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease among African-Americans with type 2 diabetes who are at high risk of cardiovascular disease.
In the current project, primary health care patients with mental illness such as anxiety, depression, fatigue or sleep disorders will be followed. The study includes both health conversations with the health curve as a systematic work with lifestyle habits, and the biochemical risk marker copeptin with a focus on improved lifestyle habits and the development of cardiovascular complications. Participants will be followed up at 12 and 24 months with renewed health interview including the health curve and blood sampling. National registries will be used for a, up to 20 year long follow-up regarding cardiovascular complications and mortality.
Objectives: 1. To examine the feasibility of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as an intervention to reduce psychological trauma and stress amongst police officers in Pakistan. 2. To test whether reducing stress and psychological trauma reduces suicidal ideation in police officers. 3. To explore participants' experiences with EMDR Intervention. Study design and setting: The study will be a mixed-method feasibility randomized controlled trial of EMDR as an intervention in treating symptoms such as stress, trauma and suicidal ideation in police officers. The study will be conducted in five major cities in Pakistan: Rawalpindi, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, and Lahore. Sample size: A total of N=80 eligible police officers will be recruited and randomized in the study.
The purpose of this study is to see how stress influences the effects of opioid pain medications often used to help relieve back pain. The study will help to learn more about how high stress levels could increase risk for pain medication misuse.
