It is not yet known whether epoetin alfa is more effective than a placebo in treating anemia in patients receiving chemotherapy. PURPOSE: Randomized double blinded phase III trial to compare the effectiveness of epoetin alfa with a placebo in treating anemia in cancer patients who are receiving chemotherapy.
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of oxaliplatin plus irinotecan in treating patients with previously treated metastatic gastrointestinal cancer that has not responded to previous treatment.

Irinotecan may be effective in treating patients with abnormal liver or kidney function or who have received radiation therapy. PURPOSE: Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of irinotecan in treating patients with solid tumors or lymphoma who have abnormal liver or kidney function or who have had previous radiation therapy to the pelvis.
Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of irinotecan plus cyclosporine and phenobarbital in treating patients who have solid tumors or lymphoma that is refractory to standard therapy. Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop cancer cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Cyclosporine and phenobarbital may enhance the effectiveness of irinotecan.
