We will perform a retrospective cohort study to assess the construct validity and performance of days alive and out of hospital at day 90 (DAOH90) in cohorts of patients with sepsis and septic shock who have been included in recent clinical trials.
The aim of this retrospective study was to identify if the enrolled patient might have had a profit of Cytosorb therapy. Primarily the decline in catecholamine therapy under Cytosorb therapy will be investigated. The Corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is currently involving all parts of the world. Several risk factors for critical illness and death from the disease have been proposed. However, it is still unclear if the observed associations between different comorbidities and chronic medications and severe COVID-19 disease and mortality is different from associations between the same factors and other severe diseases requiring intensive care unit (ICU) -care. This is important since some of the observed risk factors are very common in the aged who, by age alone, are more prone to a more severe course of any disease. By combining several registries, this study will compare, on several comorbidities such as hypertension and diabetes , the first 2000 cases of COVID-19 patients receiving critical care in Sweden to a Swedish sepsis-cohort and a Swedish adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) -cohort.
Hemoadsorption has been demonstrated to improve clinical and paraclinical results in critically ill patients with sepsis and septic shock. The present study investigates the effects of three consecutive sessions of hemoadsorption, performed in accordance to the local protocol for treating patients with sepsis, on organ failure, severity scores and 30-days mortality. Paraclinical results and severity scores were obtained before and after the three consecutive sessions.
Although alternative dosing strategies can improve antimicrobial exposure in critically ill patients, the high PK variability in this population means that some may still receive sub-optimal antibiotic exposure leading to unfavourable clinical outcomes. Therapeutic drug management (TDM) guided dosing is the only safe and effective way to ensure that all critically ill patients achieve therapeutic antimicrobial exposures and to minimise the likelihood of toxicity. For experts, TDM should be a standard of care, in particular for β-lactams. Nevertheless, because of the assay method for β-lactams and the need for bioanalytical experts, delays in obtaining results frequently occurred. These barriers, combined with difficulties in the interpretation of TDM results, need to be addressed in order to increase its routine utilization.
