Reflux-Induced Oxidative Stress in Barrett's Esophagus: Response, Repair, and Epithelial-Mesenchymal-Transition
The purpose of this study is to elucidate mechanisms whereby oxidative stress induced by acute reflux esophagitis: 1) activates p38 to regulate proteins that control the G1/S cell cycle checkpoint, and 2) activates HIFs (hypoxia inducible factors) to cause autocrine VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) signaling that triggers the EMT (epithelial-mesenchymal-transition) program in Barrett's esophagus.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease is increasing worldwide. The causes of reflux symptoms are not found exactly. especially, the postprandial reflux symptoms are more common than the all day reflux symptoms. One of the causes of reflux symptoms is the relaxation of the lower sphincter of the esophagus. But, the sphincter relaxation also occur in normal people. But, there is a difference in postprandial reflux pattens between the patients and the normal people. So, in this study, we want to compare the difference of reflux pattern between the patients who have postprandial reflux symptoms and normal people though the 24hr pH monitoring.

Prospective Evaluation of Symptom Resolution in Acid Versus Non-acid Reflux Disease Following Anti-Reflux Surgery.
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a common ailment affecting a significant portion of the US population. With the advent and increased use of esophageal impedance monitoring, both acid and nonacid reflux disease can be better diagnosed and treated. Patients with severe symptoms or symptoms refractory to medical management may be offered anti-reflux surgery for optimal treatment. Though there are a handful of studies evaluating the efficacy of anti-reflux surgery on those patients with acid or non-acid related reflux disease, the comparison between acid and non-acid reflux disease following surgery is lacking. We propose a prospective study comparing clinical outcomes from those patients with acid versus non-acid reflux disease following anti-reflux surgery with the use of validated and disease specific quality of life surveys.

The Nature of Reflux-respiratory Symptoms Association in Difficult to Treat Asthmatic/Wheezing Babies Using Impedance and Wheezy Monitoring
GER and respiratory symptoms are both common phenomenon in children. Both can coexist in the same patient by chance alone. Research reveals increased incidence for both to coexist leading to suspect a temporal association and possible causality. Therefore we conducted an observational study To determine the primary cause (RS or GER)using for the first time both PH-Impedance as measurements of GER and Wheezy monitoring (WEEM) that records simultaneously wheeze and cough noises. Both modalities will be recorded for 12-24 hours. If GER precedes cough/wheeze recordings it points to GER being the possible precipitating factor and vice versa.
