The Expression and Significance of MiRNA

It is not always known what causes PAH or what the best treatment is. The doctors doing this study would like to understand more about why some people develop PAH and other do not. They also would like to learn more about which treatments might help PAH and which people might respond better to treatments. Doctors think that testing certain substances found in blood cells might help answer these questions. These substances are normally released by our bodies to protect us from infection and to tell the difference between normal and foreign substances in our body. Finally, a new test will study very small molecules called microRNA that control how our genes are expressed. This study is being done to see if blood samples can be tested to determine who might develop PAH, how well drugs will work to treat PAH and to learn more about the development of PAH.

A Multi-Center, Open-Label, Multiple Dose, Dose Finding Study Exploring the Safety and Tolerability of Beraprost Sodium Modified Release in PAH Patients

This study is an international, open-label, multi-center, Phase II, multiple dose, dose-finding study to investigate the safety, tolerability and pharmacokinetic characteristics of BPS-MR tablets in male and female patients with PAH. Patients who meet the inclusion/exclusion criteria will enter the Treatment Phase at a Baseline visit. Patients will begin taking one BPS-MR tablet (60µg) twice daily (b.i.d.) escalating by one tablet b.i.d. each week to a maximum dose of 600µg (ten tablets) b.i.d or until the patient reaches their MTD. Following the achievement of the MTD, patients will be down-titrated off BPS-MR in weekly one tablet b.i.d. decrements. Patients may, alternatively, elect to continue taking the study drug at their MTD in a separate open-label extension study.

Subjects are to be evaluated for safety throughout the course of the study while secondary assessments will be conducted at Baseline, Week 6, Week 12, and Months 6, 12, 18 and 24 following initiation of treprostinil sodium.

Iloprost Power 15 in Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension

Patients with symptomatic idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH), or familial pulmonary arterial hypertension (FPAH) or pulmonary hypertension associated with Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) or drugs/toxins in New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional class II to IV at baseline, naive to PAH treatment or currently being treated with a stable dose of either bosentan, ambrisentan or sildenafil will be enrolled in the PROWESS 15 study. This randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled, crossover, and single-dose study will determine whether a single inhaled dose of iloprost using the power 15 disc improves exercise capacity compared to placebo in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).
