NCT ID: NCT01298557 Completed - Clinical trials for Traumatic Brain Injury

MEG and DTI of Neural Function and Connectivity in Traumatic Brain Injury

Dana-REAC
Start date: February 2007
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The overall hypothesis is that the long-term cognitive and behavioral sequelae of traumatic brain injury (TBI) are due to selective disruption of the long association white matter tracts of the cerebral hemispheres, with resulting functional impairment of the network of cortical regions that are interconnected by these long-range association pathways. We propose that traumatic white matter injury can be measured with diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and that the impaired cortical activation can be detected with magnetoencephalography (MEG), and that the results of these imaging examinations will correlate with neurocognitive status and functional recovery after TBI.

NCT ID: NCT01253044 Completed - Depression Clinical Trials

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for OEF/OIF Veterans

Start date: November 2010
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This trial compares two psychotherapies, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Present Centered Therapy (PCT), for veterans of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. We hypothesize that ACT will be more effective than PCT at reducing emotional distress and improving functioning. We further hypothesize that both interventions will be highly acceptable to participants.

NCT ID: NCT01248390 Completed - Clinical trials for Traumatic Brain Injury

"Interactive Metronome Technology for Blast-Related Traumatic Brain Injury"

Start date: August 2010
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this research is to see whether adding a new therapy helps people with brain injury focus better and think more clearly. You are being asked to participate in this research study because you have had a brain injury. If you decide to volunteer, you will be in the study for about six months. As a participant, you will be randomly assigned to one of 2 treatment plans. Randomization is a process like flipping a coin and means you will have a chance of being assigned to either of the plans. One group will be given an experimental therapy using a metronome one hour a day, three times a week. A metronome is a device that produces a steady beat. You will need to keep time with the metronome doing several different movements. On each beat, you will be given information both through sound and on a computer screen about whether you were early or late and how far off beat you were. The tempo of the beat will be at 54 beats per minute, so you will need to process the feedback information very quickly to adjust your speed up or down to match the beat. The various movements include things like clapping hands, tapping toes, or alternating between different similar movements. It is hoped that the metronome will help subjects to concentrate better.

NCT ID: NCT01220713 Completed - Clinical trials for Mild Traumatic Brain Injury

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO2T) for Post-Concussive Symptoms (PSC) After Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI)

HBOT
Start date: June 2010
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The goal of this research is to serve as a demonstration project to determine the tolerability of individuals with persistent post-concussive symptoms from combat-related mild TBI (traumatic brain injury), identify dose-finding for HBO2 (Hyperbaric Oxygen) therapy, and determine the efficacy of HBO2 therapy.

NCT ID: NCT01105962 Terminated - Clinical trials for Traumatic Brain Injury

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in Chronic Traumatic Brain Injury or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

NBIRR-1
Start date: May 2010
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

This is an observational research study whose purposes are to see: 1. if 40 Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy sessions at 1.5 atmospheres (HBOT 1.5) or more (60, or 80 HBOT's) help, worsen, or have no effect on subjects with chronic TBI/PCS (Traumatic Brain Injury/Post-Concussion Syndrome) and/or PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). 2. if improvements or worsening of symptoms can be recorded with computerized and written tests for memory and thinking, and with questionnaires about the subject's quality of life and health. 3. determine the long-term outcome of the treatment. 4. confirm, in large numbers of study participants at multiple sites nationwide, the strong positive results obtained in pilot studies

NCT ID: NCT01101724 Completed - Clinical trials for Mild Traumatic Brain Injury

Effect of Early Rest on Recovery From Pediatric Concussion

Start date: April 2010
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to find out if strict rest for 5 days helps children get better after concussion.

NCT ID: NCT00893347 Completed - Clinical trials for Mild Traumatic Brain Injury

An Intervention Program to Reduce to the Risk of Persistent Symptoms After Concussion

Start date: June 2009
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

This study investigates how well a new therapy program prevents persistent symptoms (e.g., headaches, fatigue, irritability, etc.) after concussion. The program involves examining beliefs about concussion and learning healthy coping strategies, and is completed with the first three months post-injury.

NCT ID: NCT00871884 Terminated - Head Injury Clinical Trials

Evaluation of Two Treatments for Chronic Post Concussion Syndrome

Start date: April 2008
Phase: Phase 1/Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

This study is designed to investigate factors that are associated with prolonged recovery from mild head injury. The investigators are particularly interested in defining the impact of anxiety related variables, such as health anxiety and anxiety sensitivity in the maintenance of symptoms. A further goal of the study is the evaluation of two treatment methods that have been proposed to be effective in reducing the impact of post concussion symptoms. The investigators hypothesize that a treatment which is directly focused on changing these anxiety related variables will be more effective than one that does not.

NCT ID: NCT00760734 Completed - Clinical trials for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) in Chronic Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)/Post Concussion Syndrome (PCS) and TBI/Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Start date: September 2008
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

This is a pilot trial to see if one or two 40 treatment courses of low pressure hyperbaric oxygen therapy can improve cognition and brain imaging in subjects with either chronic mild-moderate traumatic brain injury (TBI), also known as post-concussion syndrome (PCS) or chronic PCS with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) secondary to blast injury.

NCT ID: NCT00743821 Completed - Clinical trials for Post Concussive Syndrome, Chronic

Eye-Tracking Rapid Attention Computation

Eye-TRAC
Start date: October 2008
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

The purpose of this study is to validate and refine a diagnostic device that can detect attention and memory deficits that result from mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI).
