Even 20-50% of patients under sedation and mechanical ventilation develops myopathy and / or neuropathy which difficulties both the process of extubation and the functional recovery. The objective of this project is to analyze the effect of muscle electrostimulation (ESM) on muscle weakness acquired in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and its consequences. Study design: a single center, prospective, randomized trial to be held in the ICU of " Universitarian hospital La Fe" in collaboration with the service of Neurophysiology of the hospital. All patients undergoing sedation and mechanical ventilation (with an expected duration longer than 48h) and without any of the exclusion criteria detailed in the Methodology section will be included in the study. The intervention will consist of a muscular electrostimulation with the Super Pro Excel 70,UltratoneTM. The stimulation will be performed in 10 muscle groups (5 per side) following established protocols, at least 5 days a week. We will evaluate muscle strength by Medical Research Council scale, functional capacity by Barthel scale and Neurophaty Disability Scale, all clinical events will be collected and electrophysiologic, echographic and histologic parameters will be measured. The process of extubation will be performed following an established protocol, the duration will be collected as the same manner as ICU.
This study is an extension study to the pivotal study IgPro20_3003 (NCT01545076). The purpose of this extension study is to investigate the long-term treatment of CIDP with IgPro20, with regard to safety and efficacy. Subjects who have completed subcutaneous (SC) Week 25 or were successfully rescued from a CIDP relapse during the SC Treatment Period of pivotal study IgPro20_3003 (NCT01545076) will have the option to receive open-label low-dose IgPro20 (0.2 g/kg bodyweight [bw]) weekly for up to 48 weeks. Subjects relapsing on low-dose IgPro20 will either return to high-dose IgPro20 (0.4 g/kg) immediately or be discontinued, depending on investigator's judgment. Subjects returning to high-dose IgPro20 will continue on high-dose until they have completed a total of 48 weeks of IgPro20 treatment. If subjects do not successfully recover from CIDP relapse within 4 weeks, they will be withdrawn. The treatment duration will be up to 48 weeks, followed by a completion visit (week 49).
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of patisiran (ALN-TTR02) in patients with transthyretin (TTR) mediated amyloidosis. An open-label, single-arm, long-term follow-up extension study NCT02510261 (ALN-TTR02-006) was initiated to provide participants who completed this study with continued patisiran-LNP (lipid nanoparticle) treatment.
We are the missing link in clinical trials, connecting patients and researchers seamlessly and conveniently using a mobile health platform to advance medical research. We make it easy for patients to contribute to research for medical conditions that matter most to them, regardless of their location or ability to travel.
The investigators evaluated the effectiveness of the application of analysing treadmill, muscle strengthening and balance training compared to a control intervention in patients with diabetic neuropathy.
Critical illness polyneuropathy and/or myopathy (CIPNM) is a severe complication of critical illness. Retrospective data suggest that early application of IgM-enriched intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) may prevent or mitigate CIPNM. Therefore, the primary objective was to assess the effect of early IgM-enriched IVIG versus placebo to mitigate CIPNM in a prospective setting.
This project aims to develop high field MR techniques to detect nerve lesions in diabetic patients. The MRI findings will be compared to results from conventional evaluations and nerve conduction studies to determine the validity as part of a clinical practice.
Patients diagnosed with Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy were confirmed based on the European Federation of Neurological Societies/ Peripheral. Nerve Society Guideline. Patients who meet all inclusion criteria and do not conflict with the exclusion criteria will receive NPB-01 (intravenous immunoglobulin) 400mg/kg/day for five consecutive days. Subsequently, patients receive NPB-01 1g/kg every 3weeks and evaluate the Inflammatory Neuropathy Cause and Treatment(INCAT) score and INCAT sensory sumscore(ISS) et al. As a safety endpoint, the safety of NPB-01 will be investigated the occurrence of adverse events by one year after the start of the study treatment.
CoRDS, or the Coordination of Rare Diseases at Sanford, is based at Sanford Research in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. It provides researchers with a centralized, international patient registry for all rare diseases. This program allows patients and researchers to connect as easily as possible to help advance treatments and cures for rare diseases. The CoRDS team works with patient advocacy groups, individuals and researchers to help in the advancement of research in over 7,000 rare diseases. The registry is free for patients to enroll and researchers to access. Visit sanfordresearch.org/CoRDS to enroll.
