Filter by:A better understanding of how to incorporate effective smoking cessation measures into clinical practice is requested. In this is prospective, multi-center, randomized, open, blinded end-point (PROBE) trial, we assigned daily smokers hospitalized with an acute cardiac event 1:1 to an in-hospital nurse-led smoking cessation intervention with direct referral to further follow-up in the municipal healthy life-centres (intensive intervention) or to written information about smoking cessation and the municipal program (low-threshold intervention) . The primary outcome will be the smoking cessation rates between the groups at 6 months follow-up. Key secondary outcomes include a cost-effectiveness analysis of the intensive intervention and cessation rates at 3- and 12-months follow-up, the proportion who used nicotine replacement therapy and the proportion who attended the healthy-life center program between the two groups. We also assess effects of recurrent cardiovascular events and mortality after 12 months, two and five years follow-up. Exploratory analyses include new knowledge about the patient and system factors of importance for participation to healthy life-centers and for changes in smoking behaviour.
Background and Aim: Pediatric gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy is an increasingly common procedure performed to investigate and diagnose problems in the GI tract in children. Procedures in pediatric endoscopy units are routinely performed under sedation and general anesthesia, unlike adult endoscopy. Nurses working in pediatric gastroenoscopy units where sedoanalgesia is applied have important duties and responsibilities in terms of quality standards in preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative periods. Considering the increasing need for high-quality pediatric endoscopy applications, the attitudes and behaviors of nurses about sedation in pediatric patients are important as a member of the team. There is almost no literature on the experience and awareness of pediatric endoscopy nurses in clinical practice, and this encourages our team to conduct a survey across our country and to develop knowledge and clinical practices. With this questionnaire survey, it was aimed to evaluate the experience and attitudes of the endoscopy nurses working in the pediatric endoscopy unit in our country on sedation/general anesthesia management for pediatric patients
This project; It is a quasi-experimental prospective study in a single group pre-test post-test order. No randomization will be made in the selection of the sample, and 30 nurses working in the Pediatric Surgery Clinic in hospitals in Izmir and meeting the inclusion criteria will be included in the study. The data of the study will be collected through the Nurse Descriptive Characteristics Questionnaire and the Pediatric Stoma Care Knowledge and Skills Questionnaire. Pre-training introductory characteristics and pediatric stoma care knowledge and skill level of all nurses participating in the study will be measured. After the measurement, the nurses participating in the study will be given training on pediatric stoma care. Immediately after the training and three months later, the pediatric stoma care knowledge and skill levels of the nurses participating in the study will be re-measured. The introductory characteristics of the nurses involved in the project will be given as number and percentage distributions. Comparisons between nurses' introductory characteristics and Stoma Knowledge and Skills Questionnaire before and after education; It will be evaluated by non-parametric or parametric appropriate test. Comparisons between nurses' Stoma Knowledge and Skills Questionnaire scores in the pre- and post-education period will be evaluated by non-parametric or parametric appropriate test in dependent groups. The statistical significance value of the project was determined as p≤0.005. It is planned that the results of the project will mediate an international article and statement in which the effect of stoma care education on the knowledge and skill level of pediatric surgery nurses is presented. As a result of the project, if it is determined that stoma care education has an effect on the knowledge and skill level of pediatric surgery nurses, it is predicted that the quality of care of children with stoma who receive care in other institutions and organizations can be increased and the comfort of the child can be increased.
Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the number one killer of Australians with a high risk for a recurrent event(s) and hospital readmission. Many of these readmissions can be prevented with better management to control the problem of CAD. A disease management program, led by nurses who interact with other health professionals/providers, can help with education and counselling, taking medications correctly and making healthy lifestyle changes for higher risk patients. Newer models of disease management programs make use of mobile devices (such as an "app") and telehealth (by phone or video call) to monitor and manage health which could facilitate CAD management. Therefore, the aim of this study is to test this type of disease management program (DMP) compared to standard care for reducing hospital readmissions or death in people with CAD who are at high risk of being readmitted. The Investigators envisage that a novel Risk-Guided DMP will be favorable to patients and associated with high-level participation. The Investigators hypothesize that high-risk patients randomized to Risk-Guided CAD will have reduced hospital readmissions or death compared with those randomized to usual care.
The patients in the experimental group received the relevant knowledge education in the recovery period 30 minutes before anesthesia. The operation time, anesthesia time, cooperation degree score, total cooperation rate and patient satisfaction were observed and recorded. Results: there was no significant difference in operation time and anesthesia time between the experimental group and the control group (P < 0.05). The percentage of patients in the experimental group was 20.12% and 70.89% respectively, while that in the control group was 40.32% and 20.73% respectively (P < 0.05). The total cooperation rate was 95.00% in the experimental group and 77.00% in the control group. There was significant difference between the two groups (P < 0.05). The satisfaction of patients in the experimental group was 95%. 65% of the patients in the control group were satisfied (P < 0.05). Conclusion: preoperative psychological intervention for patients with general anesthesia and endotracheal intubation can significantly reduce the restlessness and uncooperative phenomenon during extubation, and improve the cooperation rate and satisfaction of patients.
The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of simulation training in nurses and midwives on knowledge and self-efficacy regarding preeclamptic pregnancy care. It is an important step in providing safe care to patients, as a learning environment is provided in which environmental risks are minimized with simulation applications. Simulation-based trainings are environments that allow each student to learn, equitable, based on adult learning principles, and open to different learning styles. The interests and needs in these environments are defined together by the learner and the educator. By keeping the experiences of the learner at the forefront, the opportunity is given to learn by doing and supported with feedback. Preeclampsia is clinically defined as a blood pressure of 140/90 mmHg or above after the 20th week of pregnancy and the addition of proteinuria (300mg / 24 hours). It can develop in about 5-10% of all pregnancies. It is defined as a nulliparous disease since it is seen in approximately 85% of women during their first pregnancy. Preeclampsia constitutes 15% of the causes of maternal mortality in our country. In studies evaluating the effectiveness of simulation training in planning the follow-up and care of preeclampsia, it was determined that this method increases the knowledge and self-confidence of nurses. For example; Christian and Krumwiede's study they found that the self-efficacy rates were significantly higher in the post-simulation test. In his study, Olubumno investigated the importance of simulation in increasing the critical thinking of perinatology nurses in the care of preeclamptic pregnant women, he found that the pre-test and post-test scores increased by 0.75 points, and this difference between the scores is statistically significant. Tabatabaeian et al., In their study comparing the effects of simulation-based education, coeducation and theoretical education on the performance of midwives in preeclampsia and eclampsia, found that the mean of the simulation group was higher than the other two groups. Preeclampsia is an important obstetric emergency in women's health and disease nursing. Thus, when they start working in the clinic, it is aimed to be able to suspect preeclampsia with the anamnesis they received from the pregnant who applied to them, and to gain them with the simulation method what they should pay attention to and how to do in the follow-up of the pregnant woman hospitalized with the diagnosis of preeclampsia. Studies conducted in our country did not include studies involving students and healthcare professionals in the management of preeclampsia with simulation methods. Therefore, it is aimed to contribute to the literature with this study.
This randomized controlled study aimed to determine the effect of education on disease management on the quality of life, and anxiety and depression levels of women with Rheumatoid Arthritis. The hypotheses of the current study are as below: H0: Education on disease management in women with Rheumatoid Arthritis does not affect the quality of life and anxiety and depression levels. H1: Education on disease management in women with Rheumatoid Arthritis affects the quality of life and anxiety and depression levels. Patients and Methods: The study was conducted with 66 women with Rheumatoid Arthritis (32 intervention, 34 control groups) at the rheumatology clinic and polyclinic of a university hospital between February and October 2019, in the city of Edirne, Turkey. Data were collected with "Patient Information Form", "Rheumatoid Arthritis Quality of Life Scale", "Health Assessment Questionnaire" and "Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale".
Many system functions differ in children dependent on mechanical ventilation support and may present with various complications. In the gastrointestinal system, gastric and duodenum-related decreased motility disorders are a very common problem in critically ill patients hospitalized in the intensive care unit, which increases mortality and morbidity. The prevalence of gastric dysmotility in pediatric intensive care is estimated to be 50%. Gastric problems such as vomiting, increase in the amount of gastric residue, decrease in bowel movements, abdominal distension, diarrhea/ constipation, etc. are observed as a result of the dysfunction of the gastrointestinal system. In addition to these problems; there are problems associated with the ventilator such as pneumonia, infection, bacterial growth, and stopping enteral feeding. Malnutrition as a result of stopping feeding prolongs the hospitalization of intensive care patients and affects mortality. Intensive care nurses play a key role in providing nutritional support to patients who receive mechanical ventilation support and whose level of consciousness is reduced. Intensive care nurses have many responsibilities such as timely initiation of nutrition, application of correct nutrition, correct placement of feeding tubes, and prevention of problems that may arise as a result of nutrition. Abdominal massage practice is a therapeutic, independent, and evidence-based nursing intervention. It has been used for many years to increase the motility of the gastrointestinal system and to treat constipation. Inexpensive and easy to apply abdominal massage compared to other methods; It increases intestinal motility, accelerates the mechanical advancement of nutrients in the digestive system, improves the blood flow of the region, and is effective in reducing intra-abdominal pressure. It has been reported in the literature that abdominal massage applied to preterm babies increases nutritional tolerance. Studies on adults have also reported that gastric residue is reduced, less vomiting is experienced, and abdominal distension is less common. However, there is no study examining the effects of abdominal massage in reducing gastrointestinal problems in children hospitalized in pediatric intensive care units and receiving ventilator support. Therefore, the aim of this study is to examine the effect of abdominal massage on gastric problems in children who are fed enterally in the pediatric intensive care unit.
OBJECTIVES: 1. To evaluate the impact of an intervention based on collaborative nursing care in terms of the changes produced in the recovery process, in positive mental health and in the nurse-patient therapeutic relationship among users of mental health day hospitals. To explore the changes produced in the recovery process of users who receive collaborative nursing care through the co-design and implementation of group activities. DESIGN: A sequential and transformative mixed methods design is proposed. METHODS. The study is structured in three phases. In phase one (baseline) and phase three (follow-up), quantitative data will be collected from patients at a mental health day hospitals based on a two-armed, parallel-design, non-randomized trial. In phase two, two groups will be established: an intervention group (GI) in which the intervention based on collaborative nursing care will be carried out through the co-design and implementation of activities through Participatory Action Research, and a control group (CG) in which the usual care dynamics will be continued. All the users of three mental health day hospitals who agree to participate in the study will be studied consecutively until the necessary sample size is reached. The outcomes used to evaluate the impact of the intervention will be the stage of the recovery process, the quality of the therapeutic relationship and the patient's level of positive mental health. DISCUSSION: Very few collaborative nursing care interventions have been studied and shown to be effective in the context of the paradigm shift toward recovery in mental health nursing. IMPACT: Understanding the changes produced in the recovery process, as well as in the quality of the therapeutic relationship and in the maintenance and/or increase of the levels of positive mental health of people with mental health problems, can contribute to the design and implementation of new methodologies to offer effective and person- centered care.
Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of multimodal interventions based on Integrative Nursing (IN) principles on blood pressure, stress, and hypertensive treatment compliance levels in individuals living in the community and with uncontrolled hypertension. Design: This is a single-center, 1:1 randomized, single-blind, parallel, active comparator trial. Method: Standard Protocol Items: Recommendations for Interventional Trials (SPIRIT) Statement 2013 checklist is used in this study. In the study, the group in which Integrative Nursing Principles-Based Multimodal Interventions were applied (UHTINuM) was taken as the experimental (n: 24), the group in which health recommendations were given as the active comparator group (n: 24). The sample size calculated according to the reference study data is 62. However, this target number could not be reached due to the COVID-19 pandemic conditions. This study was carried out with adult individuals aged 50-65 in Hayat Park, which is located within the borders of Konyaaltı District of Antalya province. Multimodal interventions including 12-week meditation and breathing techniques, yoga, hypertension treatment compliance training, and home blood pressure measurement training were applied to the UHTINuM group. The control group was directed to a specialist doctor as an intervention, information notes for hypertensive individuals and standard brochures prepared by the Ministry of Health were given. The primary results of the study were measured using an aneroid and automatic blood pressure device (blood pressure measurement), Hill Bone Hypertension Treatment Adherence Scale, Perceived Stress Scale (PSS). This will be the first study to evaluate the effect of multimodal interventions based on integrative nursing principles in uncontrolled hypertensives. If the hypotheses of the study are reached, it is expected that the planned intervention protocol will be used by other researchers and thus become widespread in the literature. Also, the results will help contribute to the provision of care in terms of IN.
