Secondary objective: Determine whether high dose oral NR improves motor symptoms associated with PD. 3. Tertiary objectives: determine whether high dose oral NR rectifies NAD metabolism and increases NAD levels in body fluids and muscle tissue.

NCT ID: NCT03813862 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Cardiovascular Diseases

Observational Pharmaco-Epidemiology Research & Analysis

OPERA
Start date: December 1, 2013
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Greater advances are needed in two separate but related areas in healthcare: 1) the Clinical Decision Support Systems that complement the EHR use in support of routine patient care, population management and disease management; and 2) the use of the point-of-care observational data from the provider-patient encounter that support realworld medical research and healthcare quality measure assessment. Real-world evaluations of treatments of chronic diseases in the context of comorbid conditions and special populations (minorities, women, mentally ill, and those with addiction) are limited. The purpose of the OPERA database is to help address this unmet need in clinical research.

NCT ID: NCT03775538 Completed - Parkinson Disease Clinical Trials

Safety of CDNF by Brain Infusion in Patients With Parkinson's Disease. Extension to HP-CD-CL-2002 Clinical Study

Start date: July 5, 2018
Phase: Phase 1/Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

This study is an extension to the HP-CD-CL-2002 clinical study. It evaluates the long-term safety and tolerability of CDNF in patients with Parkinson's disease when dosed directly into the brain using an implanted investigational drug delivery system (DDS). Long-term safety of the DDS is also being evaluated. All patients will receive monthly infusions of either mid- or high-dose of CDNF for a period of 6 months.

NCT ID: NCT03767517 Completed - Stroke Clinical Trials

A Culturally-Based Palliative Care Tele-consult Program for Rural Southern Elders

Start date: August 24, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Rural patients with life-limiting illness are at very high risk of not receiving appropriate care due to a lack of health professionals, long distances to treatment centers, and limited palliative care (PC) clinical expertise. Secondly, although culture strongly influences people's response to diagnosis, illness and treatment preferences, culturally-based care models are not currently available for most seriously-ill rural patients and their family caregivers. Lack of sensitivity to cultural differences may compromise PC for minority patients. The purpose of this study is to compare a culturally-based Tele-consult program to usual hospital care to determine whether a culturally-based PC Tele-consult program leads to lower symptom burden in hospitalized African American and White older adults with a life-limiting illness.

NCT ID: NCT03682458 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Neurodegenerative Diseases

Study of Neurodegenerative Diseases Induced Stem Cells in Patients and Healthy Family Controls.

NeuronsiPS
Start date: December 1, 2019
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Neurological and neurodegenerative diseases have a major impact in families and in the national health service due to the lack in many cases of effective and long-lasting therapies. The lack of these therapeutic strategies is due in large part to the difficulty of modeling these pathologies in vitro. In fact, the impossibility of being able to cultivate human neurons in vitro has forced the use of animal cell models that do not adequately recapitulate the complexity of these human pathologies. For this reason it is necessary to proceed with the development of in vitro models of human origin that reproduce the molecular and biochemical characteristics of these diseases. The discovery of cellular reprogramming allowed the generation of pluripotent stem cells from the conversion of somatic cells taken from adult individuals. The proposing group already has great experience in generating iPS cells by reprogramming and in differentiating them into neurons and glias useful for neurological disease cellular studies. As an example, Dr. Broccoli's group has generated iPS cells from patients with Parkinson's disease and mutations in the OPA1 gene. The study of neurons differentiated by these iPS cells allowed to identify mitochondrial defects at the base of neuronal dysfunctions and to identify for the first time how the degeneration of dopaminergic neurons also depends on a moving mode of cell death called necroptosis. The investigators therefore propose to establish lines of iPS cells from patients with genetic mutations responsible for neurological and neurodegenerative diseases to generate neuronal and glial models in vitro for the study of pathological mechanisms and the validation of new future experimental therapies.

NCT ID: NCT03623321 Completed - Clinical trials for Neuropsychiatric Symptoms Related to Neurodegenerative Disease

Extension Study of Pimavanserin in Adult Subjects With Neuropsychiatric Symptoms Related to Neurodegenerative Disease

Start date: July 17, 2018
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the long-term safety and tolerability of pimavanserin in adult and elderly subjects with neuropsychiatric symptoms related to neurodegenerative disease exposed to open-label pimavanserin for up to 52 weeks.

NCT ID: NCT03621839 Recruiting - Alzheimer Disease Clinical Trials

New CSF Biomarkers for Alzheimer's Disease

BioAD
Start date: July 12, 2013
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Today, the Alzheimer's disease (AD) diagnosis is founded not only on clinical criteria but also on complementary examinations to confirm a physiopathological process of AD. In complex cases, lumbar punction could be necessary in order to measure Aβ peptides and Total and phosphorylated Tau but new biomarkers could be useful. The main objective of this project is to conserve these cerebrospinal fluids, collected in usual practice in order to validate new biomarkers for diagnosis, prognosis or therapeutic following of Alzheimer's disease and other dementia.

NCT ID: NCT03609125 Active, not recruiting - Glaucoma Clinical Trials

Cord Blood Serum in the Treatment of Neuro-Degenerative Ophthalmic Diseases. 1-Glaucoma

Start date: March 1, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

A non-randomized, monocentric clinical study with a four month follow-up period , using a cord blood serum (CBS) eye drops in glaucoma patients. The purpose of the study analyzes whether the addition of CBS to hypotonic therapy is able to slow down the progression of anatomical and functional damage induced by glaucoma. The study evaluates the differences after two months of treatment as compared to baseline and after two-month from the end of the treatment.

NCT ID: NCT03575052 Completed - Clinical trials for Neuropsychiatric Symptoms Related to Neurodegenerative Disease

NCT ID: NCT03563807 Completed - Parkinson Disease Clinical Trials

Golf Instruction Versus Tai Chi for People With Parkinson's Disease

Start date: April 23, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to determine the feasibility and tolerability of golf instruction for participants with moderate to advanced Parkinson's disease (PD). Other forms of exercise have been shown to be beneficial for PD. Golf is a low impact sport that utilizes balance and strength. Currently, there are no data looking at the effects of golf on PD. This pilot study aims to test the effects of golf in the PD patient population, particularly its effect on balance. In this study, we will be comparing group golf instruction to group Tai Chi lessons (the gold standard balance exercise for patients with PD).
