Filter by:This study aims to analyse retrospectively the feasibility, the safety, and the efficiency, of biliary or digestive protection with room air interposition for thermal ablation of central liver tumors with high iatrogenic risk. Thermal ablation is a mini-invasive and curative treatement of liver tumors. However, it requires to be carefull about surrunding organs, such as digestive structures or central biliary tree, which can be injured if not insulated. The technique of gas interposition to protect adjacent gut is already known and validated with carbonic gas. Nevertheless, resorption of this gas is very fast, making its use tricky to keep a correct insulation during the whole thermal ablation process. Room air interposition is easy to use and can offer a slow resorption speed. Furthermore no datas are available concerning the use of room air whatever the organ protected, and the protection of central biliary tree whatever the gas used.
For patients with initially unresectable colorectal liver metastasis (IU-CRLM) receiving effective conversion therapy, disease relapse after conversion hepatectomy is common due to the extensive tumor load. Yet, few studies have focused on the assessment and management of relapse after conversion hepatectomy for IU-CRLM. This study aimed to investigate the impact of surgical management for relapse after conversion hepatectomy in IU-CRLM.
What do the investigators know already? Many women suffer loss of periods (amenorrhoea). One of the most common causes of period loss is called 'functional hypothalamic amenorrhea' (FHA). FHA is difficult to diagnose and may be mistaken for other conditions causing period loss, such as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). This could cause delays in starting the correct treatment. What is the justification for doing this study? Undiagnosed women with FHA are predisposed to complications related to low oestrogen levels, such as osteoporosis, bone fractures and infertility. The failure to accurately identify women with FHA and mislabel those women with FHA as having PCOS, may delay appropriate treatment. Treatment delay causes harm for affected women, including bone fractures and infertility. What do the investigators propose? Improve the diagnosis of women with FHA by composing an assessment score, which could be used by women to improve the accuracy of diagnosing FHA. The investigators designed a questionnaire based on literature search, which can be used to identify women with FHA. A questionnaire-based study (on-line or in person) will be performed to identify risk of FHA, in women referred to hospital with period loss.
Sodium zirconium cyclosilicate (SZC) has been demonstrated for its serum potassium-lowering efficacy and safety in hyperkalemia hemodialysis patients. However, the effects of SZC during the perioperative period remained unknown. This experiment aimed to determine whether using SZC would impact the serum potassium levels in patients with maintenance hemodialysis after parathyroidectomy (PTX).
Nivolumab is a selective monoclonal antibody that binds to the Programmed cell Death 1 (PD-1) receptor and causes reduced tumor growth. It is currently approved in France in many indications. The firsts therapeutics indications validated by the French health authorities from 2015 - metastatic melanoma2, squamous and non-squamous NSCLC, Kidney cells carcinoma - were based on clinical trials demonstrating a clinical advantage over standard nivolumab treatment at a dose of 3mg/kg every two weeks. By comparing the results predicted by simulation based on a pharmacokinetic model with those obtained in clinical trials, the manufacturer of nivolumab concluded that a fixed dose of 240 mg was equivalent to that calculated based on the weight of the patients, and the European and then French health authorities have validated this change in clinical practice The objective of the IMEPOCA study is to assess in real life the economic and clinical impact of the dose modification of nivolumab that occurred in December 2018 in France. In order to assess the economic efficiency of the change in dose strategy at the national level, 2 cohorts of patients from the National Health Data System (SNDS), treated for metastatic cancer and followed up over 1 year will be compared: one having benefited from the weight-dependent dosage and the other having benefited from the fixed dosage
This pilot study takes the innovative approach of using ultrasmall superparamagnetic iron oxide (USPIO) nanoparticle enhanced MRI to measure activity of the innate immune system within MS lesions. Activity of innate immunity has been hypothesized as one of the critical pathologic processes underpinning neurologic worsening in progressive MS. As such, in the short term this project proposes to investigate USPIO uptake in SPMS lesions as a promising in vivo imaging biomarker for chronic-active lesions, as distinguished from chronic-inactive lesions.
Retrospective analysis of a prospectively collected database of 170 patients between 2004 and 2020, who underwent liver resections for CRLM (colorectal liver metastases) at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital trying to determine rates and patterns of recurrence following liver resections for CRLM and concurrently, characterise clinical, pathological and treatment-related factors that could function as predictors of recurrence or survival, particularly neoadjuvant chemotherapy and tumour clearance.
Contrast-enhanced intraoperative ultrasound (CE-IOUS) plays an increasingly important role in the surgical therapy planning of primary liver lesions as well as liver metastases. The present study was designed to evaluate the significance of CE-IOUS by specificity and sensitivity and particularly the impact it exerts on the surgical strategy. A secondary aim was assessing the outcome relevance of surgeries influenced by CE-IOUS.

The study is being conducted to evaluate the tolerability, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of SHR6508 for Chinese patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism of chronic kidney disease treated by maintenance hemodialysis
