Filter by:The study investigates the effect of the Mothers Touch program on the psychological well-being of new mothers following 5 weeks of child birth. Mothers Touch Program is designed based on traditional Indian post-partum care given by trained carer in the family. Study was designed as cohort, including a randomised controlled trial.
The flavanoid and terpene phytochemicals present in wild green oat interact with multiple mechanisms relevant to brain function; including those which would modulate cognition and stress. The current study aims to test this in a group of N=128 males and females between the ages of 35-65yrs before and after 28 days supplementation of placebo, 300-, 600- and 900mg of a wild green oat extract.
This a randomized, double blind, placebo controlled, crossover design study which measures the effect of an available thermogenic dietary supplement on resting energy expenditure (REE), blood pressure and heart rate, and mood changes in moderate caffeine consumers. Participants will complete baseline measurements then ingest one of three pills. Once the pill is ingested, subjects will complete four REEs along with heart rate and blood pressure and appropriate questionnaires. Participants will return two more times, each after a one week washout period, and complete the same protocol with the remaining supplements.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of a specific, protocol-based group music therapy intervention, relative to a verbal discussion activity. The study will examine the impact of the specified music therapy intervention on: (1) affective outcomes, (2) social engagement behaviors, and (3) observed quality of life of persons with ADRD. This study will use a within-subjects randomized crossover design involving N=30 persons with ADRD from nursing homes to examine two levels of independent variable: singing-based music therapy and verbal discussion. Both conditions will be held in small groups of 3-6 participants. Nursing homes will be randomly assigned to an intervention sequence in a counterbalanced order (either music therapy first or verbal discussion first), and participants serve as their own controls. Each condition will occur three times per week for two consecutive weeks (6 sessions per treatment). Each session lasts for 25 minutes in the afternoon. A 2-week "wash-out" period (i.e., usual treatment) will occur between conditions. Participants will remain with their assigned small group for all study activities (i.e., music therapy, verbal discussion). Board-certified music therapists (i.e., MT-BC) will lead both conditions and will complete systematic training to ensure these conditions are implemented as intended, following a manualized protocol. An independent auditor will conduct random checks to ensure the music therapists are implementing the conditions as stipulated in the protocol. Data takers will complete systematic, manualized training to ensure reliable data collection.
The purpose of this study is to examine, in healthy controls, whether LED lighting that has a color spectrum similar to that of sunlight is able to differentially impact mood, circadian rhythms, sleep, and behavior, as compared to standard fluorescent lighting.
The aim of this study is to demonstrate the effects of 28-days supplementation with a novel probiotic formulation on mental fatigue following a cognitive load in healthy adults. Half of the participants will receive the probiotic formulation while the other half will receive placebo.
The sponsor of this study is ChromaDex, Inc. This is a double-blind, randomized, crossover study to investigate the effects of 300 mg/d and 1000 mg/d TRU NIAGEN (nicotinamide riboside) compared to a placebo control on cognitive function, mood and sleep in men and women over 55 years of age. The trial is managed by Midwest Center for Metabolic and Cardiovascular Research.
The Influence of 5-HTTLPR and BDNF Polymorphisms on Anxiety and Mood After Acute Exercise. Introduction: The 5-HTTLPR (SLC6A4) and BDNF (Val66Met) polymorphism presents an action on the modulation of human behavior and has received great attention as a risk factor for several psychiatric disorders. In recent years, a growing number of studies have evaluated the association between these polymorphisms and personality traits related to anxiety and depression. Objectives: To determine the frequencies of 5-HTTLPR and BDNF polymorphisms in a college students population; To determine the influence of 5-HTTLPR and BDNF polymorphisms on mood states and anxiety after acute physical exercise. Material and Methods: Four hundred (400) College students will be assessed. In the first phase of the study, the following procedures will be performed: Screening, Aerobic Fitness Assessment (Step Test), Questionnaires (PAR-Q, Habitual Physical Activity Level, Beck Anxiety and Depression Scale, State-Trait Anxiety, and Perceived Stress Scale), blood sample collection and genotyping. In the second phase of the study, two (2) groups with or without polymorphisms will be selected (for each gene). These groups will be submitted to four conditions (three experimental conditions and one control condition), carried out randomly and separated by an interval of 1 week. In the experimental Conditions the volunteers will perform treadmill exercises sessions (30 minutes) in three different intensities (light, moderate and vigorous) and will respond to the Borg Scale at 10, 20 e 30 minutes. In the control condition the volunteers will be instructed to remain seated (quiet rest), relaxed and silent for 30 minutes. In both conditions, the volunteers will complete the Profile of Mood States (POMS) and State-Anxiety (STAY), 05 (five) minutes before and, 5 (five) and 20 (twenty) minutes following the interventions.
This study will test whether whether the implementation of and Egg-cellent 'Breakfast in the Classroom' improves school breakfast participation and breakfast consumption in middle school adolescents; whether the implementation of 'Breakfast in the Classroom' improves appetite control, mood, cognitive performance, and unhealthy snacking behavior in middle school adolescents when compared to a traditional school breakfast program.
This acute-on-chronic study will examine the effectiveness of CP9700 for improving cognitive performance and mood in healthy young adults. CP9700 is a mix of highly purified grape seed-derived polyphenolic extracts from Vitis vinifera produced by Polyphenolics Inc. (Madera, CA, USA). The polyphenolic component of the product is comprised entirely of catechin and epicatechin, derivatives of catechin and epicatechin (e.g.,epicatechin gallate), and proanthocyanidins. We will perform a randomised, double-blind, parallel-groups human intervention trial using CP9700 and a well characterised sugar-matched placebo to investigate changes in cognitive performance.
