Medical cannabis (MC) is a standard treatment in Israel to adults with resistant Gilles de la Tourette syndrome (GTS). While small randomized control trials assessed THC efficacy on tics and premonitory urge, only small retrospective studies assessed MC efficacy and tolerability in GTS. Herein, By using an open-label, prospective design, our aim is to determine the preferred method of use, efficacy and tolerability of 12 weeks of treatment with MC in adult patients with GTS.

Effect of Medical Cannabis for Non-motor Symptoms of Parkinson's Disease

Medical cannabis (MC) is a standard treatment in Israel to Parkinson's disease (PD) patients suffering from pain. Nevertheless, it is not known about MC effectiveness for other non-motor symptoms of the disease. Our aim is to prospectively observe patients with PD before and after initiation of MC, for non-motor symptoms effect. In specific, relying of data from multiple sclerosis patients and basic science showing cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1) is abundantly expressed in the sub epithelial layer of the bladder, we will explore the impact of MC on bladder function and urinary symptoms.

The two main objectives of the proposed study are: 1. To assess the acceptability of the Joint Effort mobile application in terms of uptake, engagement and intervention appreciation. 2. To document the feasibility of the study processes in terms of online recruitment rate, adherence to online data collection methods, and attrition rate.

With increased availability and use of cannabis by older adults aged ≥ 50 years, a rigorous evaluation of the benefits and risks of cannabis use in these individuals is necessary. Our proposed project will investigate whether older adults who initiate cannabis use after the age of 50 are at an increased risk of fall and what are the underlying mechanisms. We will measure motor and cognitive function in older cannabis users and nonusers and we will use positron emission tomography to determine brain activity and how it is associated with fall risk.

The goal of the study is to evaluate how cannabis use affects memory and thinking skills and response to stress in older adults. The study will also relate cannabis use to Alzheimer's Disease (AD) biomarkers (measurable substances in blood that indicate condition), and test whether sex and hormones play a role in these effects. The study is recruiting adults between the ages of 50 and 80 who use cannabis products on a regular basis. Study participation will last about two weeks.

This research study evaluates the effects of an FDA-approved medication Gabapentin in individuals with Bipolar Disorder who smoke marijuana. Participants in the study will will be assigned to take either Gabapentin or a matched placebo. Study medication will be taken for 17 days. There will be 5 study visits, with 2 MRI brain imaging scans completed. Questionnaires and clinical interview measures will be completed at study visits along with consistent assessment of potential side effects from study medication.

Alcohol and Cannabis Co-Use and the Gut-Brain Axis

This observational study aims to improve our understanding of how legal market cannabis use impacts acute and long-term alcohol use, the microbiota-gut-brain-axis (MGBA), and neurobehavioral alcohol use phenotypes such as impulsivity, impaired cognitive functioning, and craving, among individuals who regularly use both alcohol and cannabis. Over a period of one month, subjects will participate in this three-visit study. Blood samples will be collected to allow for the assessment of inflammatory markers and cannabinoids, a fecal sample will be collected to allow for the analysis of the gut microbiome, and participants will complete cognitive and impulsivity tasks and provide craving ratings during the course of an alcohol self-administration procedure. Subjects will also participate in two 14-day daily diary data collection periods between lab sessions. Daily diary data collection will be used to assess the effects of cannabis use on alcohol use and craving longitudinally.

Community Based Cannabis Cessation Program

The study examined a community based cannabis cessation program in Norway (CCP). The CCP uses a combination of cognitive therapy and psychoeducation and covers the normal withdrawal period for cannabis smoking cessation (up to 8 weeks), comprising ~15 individual sessions. From 2005 onwards, the CCP was implemented as a low-threshold community-based program in several Norwegian municipalities, e.g., Kristiansand, Fredrikstad and Oslo. The study had an observational one-group pre- / post test design. Outcomes was changes in cannabis use, mental distress, well-being, social network and sense of coherence (SoC) measured post-intervention (T2) and at a 3 months follow-up (T3).

A Cannabis Harm Reduction e-Intervention for Young Cannabis Users With Early Psychosis

Cannabis users who experienced a psychosis are particularly vulnerable to cannabis-related harms, which can include worse psychotic symptoms and more hospitalizations. Unfortunately, few psychosocial interventions exist that aim to decrease these harms. Instead, most focus on ceasing cannabis use which is rarely appealing to cannabis users. Furthermore, face-to-face psychotherapy often remains inaccessible to people with psychosis mostly due to lack of trained clinicians. Alternatives such as e-interventions have the potential to increase access to treatment and decrease clinicians' workload. Among cannabis harm reduction approaches are the protective behavioural strategies. These strategies do not encourage nor discourage cannabis use. Instead, they recommend behaviours for safer cannabis use. For example, these strategies include: 1) avoid driving a car under the influence of cannabis, 2) avoid mixing cannabis with other drugs and 3) purchase cannabis only from a trusted source. In the present pan-Canadian study, we will test the first e-intervention called CHAMPS (Cannabis Harm-reducing App for Managing Practices Safely) for cannabis harm reduction adapted for young adult cannabis users who experienced a psychosis. CHAMPS is a smartphone application that includes 17 strategies for safer cannabis use, a personalized consumption goal and a consumption journal. The goals of this study are 1) to confirm whether CHAMPS is acceptable to participants and 2) to test whether it works, notably by positively impacting participants' health and cannabis consumption habits.
