Filter by:Demineralization during orthodontic (brace) treatment is a common clinical problem leading to unsightly white or brown marks on the teeth. A recent systematic review has shown little evidence that current methods of delivering fluoride are effective at reducing this problem. Design: A multi-centre randomised single blinded controlled clinical trial will be conducted with two parallel groups. Setting: The trial patients will be treated by eight named operators on the Specialist List for Orthodontics held by the General Dental Council and who work either within the hospital service or specialist orthodontic practice. The sample size calculation suggests that each operator will need to treat 40 patients in the trial (approx 1 session per week) plus up to 10 familiarisation patients before. Planned trial interventions: Brackets will be bonded to all teeth in front of the first permanent molars with either a resin-modified glass ionomer cement (Fuji Ortho LC) or a light cured composite control (Transbond). The material to be bonded will be allocated randomly. Outcome measures: The two main outcome measures will be the difference in demineralization of the anterior teeth before and after treatment assessed from photographs and the number of debonded brackets during treatment.
The purpose of this investigation is intended to evaluate the efficacy of surgically facilitated orthodontic treatment (SFO) in terms of treatment time, incidence of root shortening, and occurrence of mucogingival side effects compared to conventional orthodontic therapy in patients undergoing orthodontic treatment to correct crowding and/or retroclination of their mandibular anterior dentition.
The aim of the current controlled trial was to assess the possible net skeletal and dental effects of FLMGM treatment in relation to growth with emphasis on the contribution of skeletal and dental changes to sagittal correction of Cl II/1 malocclusion. The null hypothesis stated that there were no significant differences in dentoskeletal changes between FLMGM treated group and control untreated group.

Fixed braces (appliances) are used to straighten the malalignment of teeth. There has been a lot of research into the factors that can affect the speed of alignment of teeth but there has been very little research on how different techniques of wire attachment to the brace (ligation) can affect this. The randomised clinical trial of 100 patients aims to compare the speed of alignment of the lower (mandibular) front teeth (incisors) using two different techniques over a period of 12 weeks. Both techniques use the conventional small elastic rings (modules) that are placed over each metal square (bracket) but they will be tied in a different configuration for each group. We will also observe any differences in the distances between the corresponding teeth either side of the lower jaw for each group and the bracket failure rates.
The purpose of this research study is to assess the clinical effectiveness of the procedure of a minimally invasive alveolar microperforation procedure to achieve accelerated tooth movement in patients undergoing orthodontic treatment. "Accelerated tooth movement" means that using the PROPELâ„¢ device may help complete your treatment with braces on one side of your mouth sooner than would be expected if the device were not to be used.
