This is a randomised controlled trial to evaluate safety and efficacy of two different port site entry techniques in laparoscopic renal surgery: open method (Hasson) and closed method (Veress). It will involve 300 adult patients undergoing elective laparoscopic renal surgery in Tallaght hospital under two Consultant urologists.
The NephoMIC project is a biological collection in patients of Nephrology, allowing the study of the links between kidney diseases, Immunity system and Cardiovascular complications. Its aim is to allow the development of a translational research on the theme of "Systemic Nephrology", which concerns both renal complications of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, and systemic complications of patients with kidney disease, linked to both a state of immunosuppression and an increased risk of cardiovascular complications. It is based on the proximity between the Clinical investigation Center (CIC) of the hospital, where the samples are received, techniqued and preserved, and the Center of Nephrology and Renal Transplantation of the hospital. The collection includes blood samples (whole blood, serum, plasma, total blood RNA, PBMC cells), and urine samples (fresh urine). Participation in the collection is particularly recommended for patients who require a medical renal biopsy in the Nephrology Department. Other well-phenotyped patients (well-defined renal disease diagnosis) may also participate in NephroMIC.
Measure trimethylamine oxide in the breath.
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of offering reimbursement for living donor lost wages on the rate of live donor kidney transplantation.
This is a prospective single arm study enrolling patients who are scheduled for creation of a new Brachiocephalic or Radiocephalic AV fistula. Up to 80 patients will be enrolled, 50 with upper arm AV fistula and 30 with forearm AV fistula. All patients will be implanted with the VasQ device, a subcutaneous arteriovenous conduit support for vascular access. The follow up period in this study will be for a duration of 12 months, with follow up visits scheduled at 1, 3, 6, 9, and 12 months.
Effectiveness of music therapy on blood pressure and anxiety among patients undergoing haemodialysis
The purpose of this research study is to find out how well ixazomib (the study drug) works to desensitize highly sensitized kidney transplant recipients.
The present record represents a secondary data analysis of the Modification of Diet in Renal Disease (MDRD) Study. For this analysis, the MDRD study data and specimens were retrieved from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) Central Repository. A global, untargeted, metabolomic profile was used to investigate biomarkers of dietary intake as well as biomarkers of kidney disease progression.
In this study, the Investigators plan to determine the optimal means to prevent or slow the progression of kidney disease among genetically at-risk northern Nigerian HIV-infected adults. Based on data from studies of diabetic kidney disease that used medications that block the renin angiotensin aldosterone system (RAAS), we plan to evaluate whether or not RAAS inhibition (using a widely available medication that blocks RAAS) in HIV-infected adults produces similarly promising results.
