Filter by:This is a follow-up study of a randomised clinical trial, called TEMPO (a double-blind randomized clinical trial investigating infant formula and human breast milk consumption), in which infants participated in their first year of life. The investigators like to know if these children develop allergies or infections in childhood and whether their feeding pattern in infancy plays a role.
SARS-CoV-2 (Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2) is a new coronavirus and identified causative agent of COVID-19 disease. These viruses predominantly cause mild colds, but can sometimes cause severe pneumonia and pulmonary skeletal changes. By low-field gastric magnetic resonance imaging (NF-MRI), only a small number of structural, scarring changes were seen in a preliminary study of pediatric and adolescent patients with past SARS-CoV-2 infection. In contrast, however, extensive changes in ventilation and blood flow function of the lungs were seen. The long-term consequences and spontaneous progression of these changes on imaging are completely unclear. The aim of this study is to assess the course of these functional lung changes in pediatric and adolescent patients and to validate them with other standard clinical procedures.
Sub-optimal transfer of clinical information during inter-hospital transfer (IHT, the transfer of patients between acute care hospitals) is common and can lead to patient harm. To address this problem, the investigators will use key stakeholder input to refine and implement an interoperable health information exchange platform that integrates with the electronic health record and improves the reliability of and access to necessary clinical information in three use cases involving transfer of patients between sending and receiving hospitals with varying levels of affiliation and health record integration. The investigators will assess the effect of this intervention on frequency of medical errors, evaluate the use and usability of this platform from the perspective of those that interact with it, and use these results to develop a dissemination plan to spread implementation and use of this platform across other similar institutions.
This is a prospective observational study to include participants with a spectrum of emerging or unknown pathogens with the objective to determine etiology and clinical characteristics of those diseases.
Deepcath is the first step to the introduction of artificial intelligence in catheter care. A better use of visualisation of catheter exit site should be used not only by the HCWs but also by the patients and their family. A deep learning system able to detect visual abnormalities of the catheter exit site will be an helpful tools to develop a continuous follow-up of intravascular catheters.
Testing and comparison of a novel point-of-care electrochemical assay to detect and help diagnose periprosthetic joint infection on the hip and knee to the standard of care test
Surgical site infection (SSI) is one of the most frequent and fearsome complications in vascular surgery due to its high morbidity and mortality. In addition, SSI is one of the factors related to the development of prosthetic infection. Consequently, it represents a significant increase in hospital stay and healthcare costs. A 2021 meta-analysis on groin SSI prevention strategies in arterial surgeries reported that using intradermal sutures could be associated with a lower SSI rate. The published results from a single-center retrospective study comparing SSI rates before and after implementing an SSI prevention protocol also suggest better outcomes with intradermal suturing. This study aims to assess the SSI incidences of both skin closure techniques in vascular surgery patients undergoing femoral artery approach through a perpendicular groin skin incision.
The purpose of this study is to assess the effects of polyphenols from natural aronia juice on the immune system. Therefore, the study aims to distinguish the effects of natural juices that are rich in phytonutrients such as polyphenols and carotenoids in healthy and depressive subjects in order to use the known positive effects of these food sources in the therapeutic setting. The consumption of natural fruit juices that are rich in polyphenols and carotenoids mirror a model of vegetarian diet due to the increased micronutrient density derived from plant food. Results obtained here can be seen as preliminary explanation models for the beneficial effects of vegetarian diet. It is hypothesized, that the consumption of naturally polyphenol rich aronia juice changes the expression of regulatory T cells, specific cells of the immunesystem that contribute to immunomodulation. Furthermore, beneficial changes in the gut microbiome, the metabolome and the nutritional status are expected in the studied groups. The study was registered retrospectively (after start of recruitment) on Clinicaltrials.gov.
In Sub-Saharan Africa, lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs) and tuberculosis (TB) jointly are the leading cause of overall mortality. There is a need to integrate sustainable triage and management strategies into standard care. The TrUST study investigates the utility of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) for diagnosis and prognosis of LRTIs in TB endemic regions in the outpatient triage setting. Automated interpretation of POCUS by artificial intelligence (AI) may further standardize and improve its predictive utility as well as facilitate its implementation into usual practice.
