#KindGirlsInACTion: A Programme for the Promotion of Mental Health of Female Adolescents

The #KindGirlsInACTion project started in 2017 and developed and implemented a psychotherapeutic intervention program in Portuguese female adolescents. This program aimed to improve the overall quality of life and well-being of the participants, and specifically to promote a qualitative improvement in body image and interpersonal relationships, through the promotion of self-compassion, compassion and psychological flexibility. #KindGirlsInACTion is a school-based program, with 9 sessions over 9 weeks. It is essentially practical and interactive, with exercises created specifically for the program, as well as the regular practice of mindfulness.

A Pilot Study of Evidence-based Guided Self-help for the Treatment of Binge Eating

The purpose of the present pilot study is to evaluate the feasibility, acceptability and likely effectiveness of an evidence-based guided self-help intervention for binge eating and related disordered over-eating in those unable to access clinician provided treatments. If feasible, acceptable and likely to be effective, such interventions could be made available more widely as an early intervention to those in need. Such interventions have the potential to improve quality of life by removing or ameliorating symptoms that impair psychological and social functioning. Eligible participants will receive the guided self-help intervention - an evidence-based self help program in the form of a self-help book plus telephone support and encouragement to follow the program provided by specially trained help-line volunteers. Support completing the self-help program will be provided over a period of 4 months and participants will be followed up for a year after completion of the intervention. Participants will be asked to complete brief online assessments before starting the program, at the end of 4 months when they complete the program and at 6 month and 12 month follow up.

Safe Management of People With Type 1 Diabetes and EAting Disorders studY

There is currently no effective intervention for type 1 diabetes and eating disorders. The main objective of STEADY Stage 2 is to test the feasibility of the newly developed STEADY intervention. STEADY was co-designed by using Experience Based Co-Design methodology and other qualitative methods (focus groups, interviews). These findings informed the development of a T1DM cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) manual. The intervention will now be tested in a feasibility Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT) in adults with type 1 diabetes and eating disorders and compared with usual clinical care. If STEADY is feasible, this may provide an effective intervention for this population. This study will take place at King's College London. Participants will remain in the study for 6 months, with a 12-month extended observation period. The study is expected to end in February 2023.

Trial on Three Eating Disorders Group Treatment

This trial aims at comparing three group treatments designed for eating disorders: a Cognitive-dissonance, a Mindfulness and a Person-centered based programs. Women with eating disorders will be recruited and randomized to one of the three programs. Participants will complete a pretest, a posttest, a 3-months follow-up and a 1-year follow-up. This trial aims to compare the programs to analyze the specific dimensions upon which each program acts. The investigators therefore made hypotheses according to the programs' theory: participants in the Cognitive-dissonance based program should experience a greater decrease in eating disorders symptoms, thin-ideal internalization and body dissatisfaction and a greater improvement in quality of life than other participants. Participants in the Mindfulness-based program should show a greater improvement in negative affect and in equanimity than other participants. Participants in the Person-Centered based program should report a greater increase in congruence than other participants.

Identifying Risk Factors That Predict Onset of Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa

Across the United States, thousands of children and adolescents suffer from eating disorders. Among young women alone, an estimated 2 to 4 percent are dealing with anorexia nervosa. Anorexia nervosa also has the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric disorder and produces a six-fold increased risk for death. Unfortunately, study shows that current treatments are only successful with 25 percent of patients and no eating disorder prevention program has been found to reduce future onset of anorexia nervosa. The goal of this study is to conduct a highly innovative pilot study that will identify risk factors that predict future onset of anorexia nervosa and investigate how the risk processes for anorexia nervosa are different from the risk processes for bulimia nervosa. The proposed pilot study will: - Compare 30 healthy adolescent girls at high risk for anorexia nervosa to 30 healthy adolescent girls at high risk for bulimia nervosa, and 30 healthy adolescent girls at low risk for eating disorder in an effort to document risk processes that are present in early adolescence before anorexia nervosa typically emerges. - Test whether elevations in the hypothesized risk factors predict future onset of anorexia nervosa over a four-year follow-up.

Obesity is a major public health problem and Binge eating disorder (BED) is very frequently observed in patients considered for weight loss surgery and seems to influence their outcome critically. Literature highlights a global emotional overload in individuals with BED, but few are known on the mechanisms involved. The purpose of this study is to fill this gap by comparing the neurofunctional profiles of emotion regulation between patients suffering from obesity, with or without BED and healthy participants during the performance of emotion regulation tasks. Results may help to understand the neural bases of the impairments observed in patients with obesity, with or without BED, which may in turn help to propose, in the long term, potential new therapeutic approaches.

Chompions! A Treatment Study for Childhood Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID)

Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) is a disorder that affects toddlers, children, adolescents, and adults. Individuals with ARFID are not able to consume an adequate amount or variety of food to a degree that it affects their mental and/or physical health. ARFID often begins in early childhood so it is important to treat children in early in life as possible to prevent any negative consequences of poor nutrition. There are currently no treatments for young children with ARFID. The investigators have developed two different study programs and the purpose of this study is to test them out and see if they help children with ARFID and to learn more about how these study programs work.
