Filter by:This study aims to examine the comparative effectiveness of different exercise frequencies (once-a-week vs. thrice-a-week) for reducing liver fat in centrally obese adults with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), with weekly exercise volumes aligned with the World Health Organization's physical activity recommendations.
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by SARS-CoV-2 causes high morbidity and mortality worldwide. SARS-CoV-2 vaccination is currently the most effective means of reducing morbidity, severe illness and mortality risk. This study aimed to establish a metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) cohort of sequential booster SARS-CoV-2 vaccination, and to identify the dynamic changes of immune response induced by sequential booster SARS-CoV-2 vaccination in MAFLD population. To investigate the effects of blood routine, liver function biochemistry and coagulation function at 28 days, 57 days and 180 days after inoculation of SARS-CoV-2 vaccination.
This study aim to find out metabolic molecules in blood and urine which could identify high risk of advanced fibrosis in MAFLD patients via NMR-based metabolic profiling.
Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a serious type of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which is characterized by lobular inflammation and apoptosis resulting from hepatic steatosis in the absence of excessive alcohol consumption. If NASH are not controlled well, it will advance to liver fibrosis, cirrhosis, and even hepatocellular carcinoma. However, there is no approved treatments currently. The investigators aim to clarify whether hydroxychloroquine relieves nonalcoholic steatohepatitis by reviewing medical records from our out-patient-clinic patients who accept the treatment of hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil®).
This study will be a randomized, controlled, parallel study that aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Rosuvastatin versus Coenzyme Q10 on nonalcoholic steatohepatitis patients.
The goal of this clinical trial is to compare a two-week course of diazoxide (at two different doses) and placebo in people with overweight/obesity and insulin resistance (IR) with, or at high risk for, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The main questions it aims to answer are how mitigation of compensatory hyperinsulinemia with diazoxide affects parameters of glucose and lipid metabolism (how people with IR and NAFLD respond to lowering high insulin levels so that the investigators can see what happens to how the liver handles fat and sugar). Participants will: - Take 27 doses of diazoxide (at 1 mg per kg of body weight per dose [mpk] or 2 mpk) or of placebo, over 14 days - Take 32 doses of heavy (deuterated) water (50 mL each) over 14 days - Have blood drawn and saliva collected after an overnight fast on four mornings over the two-week study period - Consume their total calculated daily caloric needs as divided into three meals per day - Wear a continuous glucose monitor for the two-week study period Researchers will compare fasting blood tests at intervals during the study period in participants randomized (like the flip of a coin) to diazoxide 1 mpk, diazoxide 2 mpk, or placebo, to see how the drug treatment affects plasma glucose, serum insulin, and serum lipid parameters (triglycerides, free fatty acids, and apolipoprotein B). They will also consume heavy (deuterated) water to assess de novo lipogenesis (building of new fatty acids by the liver).
The goal of this observation study is to assess whether endoscopic ultrasound shear wave elastography (EUS-SWE) may be a useful tool for liver fibrosis screening in patients with elevated body mass index and non alcoholic fatty liver disease as compared to other non-invasive screening modalities, which have traditionally had less accurate results in this population. The main questions it aims to answer are: - Determine accuracy of EUS-SWE for liver fibrosis screening compared to other non-invasive scoring systems, such as the FIB-4 score and Fibroscan in patients with elevated body mass index - Establish optimal stiffness (kPa) cutoffs for liver fibrosis grading for EUS-SWE for this patient population in reference to the gold standard liver biopsy, as no standard cutoffs currently exist. Participants will undergo routine endoscopic ultrasound as part of their standard clinical care and indication. Participants are consented for the procedure and undergoing the shear wave elastography. In addition to their standard ultrasound test, it takes on average an extra 2-3 minutes to perform the shear wave elastography. The procedure itself adds no additional risk to the patient and does not expose them to radiation.
Novo Nordisk is developing the study medicine NNC0194-0499 for the treatment of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). NASH is a serious disease where fat, inflammation and scar tissue builds up in the liver. In this study the blood and urine levels of NNC0194-0499 will be compared in people with various degrees of reduced kidney function to the blood and urine levels in people with normal kidney function, after administration of one dose of 30 milligrams (mg) NNC0194-0499. Participant will only get the study medicine in one injection into a skinfold in the thigh (subcutaneous). The study will last for about 66 days including a screening phase of up to 28 days prior to dosing.
This is a single-center, prospective, randomized, controlled (crossover) clinical study designed to investigate the specific dose-response impact of insulin infusion rate (IIR) on blood glucose levels during a pancreatic clamp study. The investigators will recruit participants with a history of overweight/obesity and evidence of insulin resistance (i.e., fasting hyperinsulinemia plus prediabetes and/or impaired fasting glucose and/or Homeostasis Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance [HOMA-IR] score >=2.73), and with evidence of, or clinically judged to be at high risk for, uncomplicated non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Participants will undergo two pancreatic clamp procedures in which individualized basal IIR are identified, followed in one by maintenance of basal IIR (maintenance hyperinsulinemia, MH) and in the other by a stepped decline in IIR (reduction toward euinsulinemia, RE). In both clamps the investigators will closely monitor plasma glucose and various metabolic parameters. The primary outcome will be the absolute and relative changes in steady-state plasma glucose levels at each stepped decline in IIR.
Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH) is a condition with increased amount of fat, inflammation and scarring in the liver. In compensated cirrhosis, the liver is coping with this damage and maintaining its important functions. Decompensation occurs when the liver becomes unable to perform all of its functions adequately. Variceal hemorrhage (bleeding from abnormal vessels in the liver called varices), Ascites (abnormal build-up of fluid in the abdomen), and Encephalopathy (brain confusion as a result of the liver not being able to get rid of toxic substances) are three symptoms of liver decompensation. The purpose of this research study is to investigate better ways to routinely monitor the condition of patients with NASH with compensated cirrhosis and to better pinpoint the development of decompensation in the livers of these patients.
