Filter by:This research is being done because people with diabetes have reduced healing capacity and prone to develop infections of foot wounds. This can be problematic because wounds that become infected may result in amputation and more severe complications. New evidence suggests that a better understanding of the microbiome of wounds (e.g., bacterial presence) may provide information about wound healing and provide an earlier opportunity to identify an individual who may be prone to develop diabetic foot infection in their wound. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to evaluate the role of the microbiome of the diabetic foot ulcer in development of infection and wound healing. Once the role of the microbiome is confirmed, progress towards the prevention and treatment of diabetic foot ulcers and complications may be possible.

The purpose of this trial is to evaluate the safety and between-group effect size of STIMULAN VG compared to SoC treatment in patients with diabetic foot osteomyelitis (DFO) of the forefoot.
Diabetes mellitus consists of a heterogeneous group of metabolic disorders that have hyperglycemia in common, resulting from defects in insulin action, insulin secretion, or both. Diabetes mellitus has gained increasing importance and is considered one of the main themes of global health problems due to the damage caused to quality of life, public health and the epidemiological picture presented. Among the complications are diabetic foot ulcers, with higher prevalence in the lower limbs, they are classified as loss of skin continuity, which can reach from the epidermis to deep structures such as muscles, bones and tendons.
This is a randomized controlled multi center study on diabetic patients with the aim of evaluating the efficacy of the adipose tissue processed with the SyntrFuge™ system in diabetic patients with diabetic foot ulcers. In particular, it will be evaluated whether the microsized fat graft will be able to shorten the healing times of these wounds. Patients will be randomized to the treatment group with adipose tissue processed with the SyntrFuge™ system (injection of autologous microsized adipose tissue) or to the control group represented by the standard of care.
The aim of this study is to determine the effect of online trainings on diabetic foot care on foot care behavior and self-efficacy attitudes of individuals with type II diabetes. Purpose in accordance with the patient's Diagnostic Information Form, diabetic foot care self-efficacy Scale(DABOO), foot care Behavior Scale(ABDO) and diabetic foot risk screening forms are available in the data collection tools; education and Research Hospital Internal Medicine outpatient clinic with Deeply Izmit Seka state hospital, inpatient or outpatient treatment for persons with Type II diabetes who agree to volunteer to participate in research 90 shall apply. After that, the groups will be divided into two groups by randomization, and one of the groups will be given training sessions consisting of min 20 max 40 minutes for diabetic foot care in 5 sessions for nine weeks. After the training, the scales will be applied to the groups again. The data obtained before and after the training will be compared statistically in a computer environment
Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) pose a significant threat to the health and wellbeing of diabetic patients. Affecting around 1 in 10 people (NHS North West Coast Strategic Clinical Networks, 2017) regardless of a diabetes type they often result in a drastically worsened quality of life and can lead to severe consequences including leg amputations. This survey will help to understand what role various environmental factors have on the incidence, severity and recurrence of DFUs. Results from this study will help healthcare professionals as well as patients to better understand various factors involved in DFU prevalence. Moreover, this survey could help to appreciate whether a more holistic approach should be followed when assessing DFU risk and deciding on therapy. This study will be run across five sites in England between October 2023 and May 2024 and will involve a small pilot study (informal interview) and an anonymous, ten-minute questionnaire. Any adult with an ongoing or past DFU will be eligible. Participants will be asked about their job type, quality of life, diabetic therapy, comorbidities, and environmental factors questions. There will be an option for a follow-up questionnaire after 12 weeks to understand the healing process and changes to the quality of life following a DFU incident. Additionally, patients may consent to provide access to excerpts from their anonymized medical history details (prescribed medications) to better understand their diabetic and DFU history. This study will be run as part of an industrial, London Interdisciplinary Biosciences Consortium (LIDo) PhD project investigating the autologous platelet-rich plasma gel for diabetic foot ulcers (RAPID™ biodynamic haematogel) with King's College London as funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSCR) and Biotherapy Services Ltd.
To examine the effects of aerobic exercise and foot exercises in addition to aerobic exercise on lower extremity distal tissue mechanics, muscle strength and neuropathy symptoms in type 2 diabetics with peripheral neuropathy. Subjects will be divided into three groups through randomization.Subjects in the 1st group will be included in the control group and will continue their routine medical treatment for 12 weeks. Subjects in the 2nd group, in addition to their medical treatment, only aerobic exercise training,subjects in the 3rd group will be given aerobic exercise training and exercises for the foot and ankle in addition to their medical treatment. After 12 weeks of training, subjects will be followed for another 12 weeks. subjects will be evaluated before treatment, at 12 and 24 weeks.
During the observational, non-interventional study, at Baseline Study Visit (BSV) subjects will be screened and consented. Eligible subjects will undergo imaging with the DeepView device. Pre- and post-debridement images will be obtained (if debridement performed per SOC), as well as reviewing medical history and physical assessments. Additional Study Visits (SVs) will be performed when patient returns to the clinic for Routine Clinic Visit for up to 12 weeks or wound closure. During these visits DeepView imaging will occur pre- and post-debridement, and the status of the subject's treatment will be recorded.
Summary of the problem: Diabetes has been described as the fastest growing health crisis of our time. It currently affects more than 4.5million people in the UK. The direct cost to the NHS is already over £1 billion per year. One of the commonest complications of diabetes are foot ulcers. Despite current best treatment, these ulcers can be very difficult to heal, often taking months to heal and some never do. Even after healing ulcers return in up to 60% of people. In England someone undergoes an amputation of part of their foot every 2 hours and every 4 hours someone loses their leg due to diabetic foot ulcers. People are rarely able to be as active as before. This seriously affects their work, finances and quality of life. Research into improved treatments are a national priority. These treatments need to be safe, effective, tolerable for patients and value for money. Preliminary research has identified shockwave therapy as a promising new treatment in which high-power soundwaves (similar to ultrasound) are delivered to the ulcer. This may make ulcers heal faster. However, the effectiveness of shockwave therapy and the optimum dose is unknown. The aim of the study: 1. To carry out a preliminary (pilot) trial comparing sham (not active) shockwaves, low number of shockwaves and high number of shockwaves on diabetic foot ulcer healing 2. To understand beliefs, concerns, ideas and experience of shockwave therapy amongst patients and clinicians 3. To investigate the cost effectiveness (value for money) of shockwave therapy Methods 1. Pilot Trial: Ninety patients with DFU will be randomly assigned to one of three treatment groups: 1. High dose shockwave treatment 2. Low dose shockwave treatment 3. "Sham" shockwave treatment Each treatment will be delivered in 3x30minute sessions in a 7-day period. Face-to-face follow up appointments will take place 1, 2, 3 and 6 months after treatment to measure ulcer healing and changes in quality-of-life.
