There are about 21071 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Spain. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
The study assesses the effects of long-term movement integration intervention in academic lessons of primary education (6th grade) on physical activity levels and sedentary behaviour, executive functions, academic achievement and on-task behaviour. To achieve it, a cluster randomized controlled trial design will be adopted, where schools will be the clusters.
"Juego de Llaves" is a universal school-based drug prevention program for adolescents aged 12-15 years. The outcome evaluation is critical to determine the quality of preventive interventions. This protocol describes the full protocol of the evaluation design, instruments, randomization procedure, follow-ups, and primary outcomes. Method: Non-Randomized Control Cluster Trial in a set of Spanish school centers at the compulsory secondary education level, with follow-ups at 12-, 24- and 36-months. Participants will be allocated to an experimental or control (no intervention) group. Using an electronic ad-hoc designed App, a battery of instruments will be used to assess addictive behaviors, sociodemographic variables, school climate and other transdiagnostic psychological variables. A piloting test will be conducted to test the implementation protocol and to calculate the sample size needed for the outcome evaluation. After implementing the program, longitudinal statistical approaches will be used to inform on the intervention efficacy and potential moderators and mediators. There is a lack of effectiveness assessments of school prevention programs, and it is expected that this protocol will expedite the monitoring and ongoing evaluation in prevention.
MISTRAL (Microbiome-based stratification of individuals at risk of HIV-1 acquisition, chronic clinical complications, antimicrobial drug resistance, and unresponsiveness to therapeutic HIV-1 vaccination) is a 5-year EU Horizon 2020 project, running from 1/1/2020 - 31/12/2024. The project is led by Fundacio Privada Institut de Recerca de la Sida-Caixa CAIXA in Barcelona and aims to explore the gut microbiota in relation to HIV-1, seeking microbiome biomarkers to support development of interventions that mitigate infection and enhance response to vaccines and therapies. If successful, MISTRAL will benefit millions of human beings living with, or at risk of acquiring HIV-1 infection, and will produce novel concepts and technical innovations applicable to other human diseases. By doing that, MISTRAL will help to unlock the full clinical potential of the human microbiome to stratify patient outcomes and will irreversibly bring microbiome science closer to clinical practice
The main objective of this project is to apply a precision medicine approach to try to explain the intra-individual variability of the response to different weight loss approaches: a balanced hypocaloric diet in macronutrients (MedDiet), a very low carbohydrate diet (KetoDiet) and an intermittent fasting (IF) approach, and try to establish in a personalized manner with the individual variability in genetics, metabolites, intestinal microbiome, and environmental factors the best dietary strategy for weight loss. As secondary objectives the investigators pretend to O1: To analyze whether individual variability in genetics, epigenetics, intestinal microbiome, and environmental factors determine the changes in insulin resistance, blood pressure, lipid levels and NASH markers after three different dietary interventions. O2: To analyze whether individual variability in genetics, epigenetics, intestinal microbiome, and environmental factors determine the changes in the body composition and the different ratio of free-fat/ fat mass loss after three different dietary interventions. O3: To determine the most effective intervention to increase the loss of fat mass, preserve the free-fat mass and trigger a better metabolic profile. O4: To follow-up changes in gut microbiota and DNA methylation after each of the cross-over dietary interventions. O5: To evaluate the transcriptional response of adipose tissue and elucidate its predictive value for the body-composition changes in patients subjected to the different dietary interventions. O6: To evaluate the influence of D-ß-hydroxybutyrate as well as other short-chain acyl-CoA precursor metabolites in human adipocytes lipolysis by in vitro experimentation and elucidate the influence of metabolite-sensitive histone modifications in the shaping of adipose transcriptional program and lipolysis sensitivity. O7: To develop a machine learning algorithm based on genetics, epigenetics, intestinal microbiome, and environmental factors for the prediction of the best dietary approach for weight loss in a personalized manner. To try to respond to these objectives, the investigators will apply two models: a randomized cross-over study testing three different dietary weight-loss interventions: MedDiet, KetoDiet, and IF with wash-out periods before each intervention.
Prospective, randomized, placebo-controlled, multicenter of 3 active treatment groups, compared to 1 placebo group, for the determination of the efficacy and safety of subcutaneous immunotherapy in patients with mild to moderate asthma and rhinitis/rhinoconjunctivitis (intermittent or persistent) allergic to Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus and/or Dermatophagoides farinae.
Non-inferiority trial to determine whether partial oral treatment is non-inferior to OPAT(Outpatient parenteral therapy) in patients diagnosed with infective endocarditis
Coronavirus 2019 disease can cause important sequelae in the patient, being one of the main affectations of the respiratory system due to bilateral pneumonia and frequently presenting loss of strength, dyspnea, polyneuropathies and multi-organ involvement. Respiratory muscle dysfunction It is one of the most frequent sequelae of this disease. The aim of this study it to assess the effect of pulmonary rehabilitation program (PRP) for 8 weeks vs PRP supplemented with pulsed electromagnetic field therapy (PEFT) vs control group (CG) with health education in people with sequelae of COVID-19 on respiratory capacity and clinical response.
The present project will evaluate through a randomised controlled clinical trial with 6-month follow-up, the efficacy and cost-utility (6-month time horizon) of the multicomponent FIBROWALK programme in an online (i.e., FIBRO-On) and outdoor (i.e., FIBRO-Out) adjunctive to usual care (HC) format, as compared to HC. In order to determine the mechanisms of action of the clinical effects of the interventions studied 6 months after the start of treatment, pre-post changes will be evaluated in various psychological variables considered to be mediators from a theoretical point of view, as well as in immuno-inflammatory markers with evidence of alteration in FM and/or potentially modifiable by the interventions proposed (i.e. IL-6, CXCL8, IL-17A, IL-4, IL-10, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein). In the field of personalised treatment in chronic pain, the design of the present study with 3 treatment branches will also make it possible to establish whether certain patient profiles or baseline psychobiological characteristics can predict the short- and medium-term clinical response to the treatments studied.
Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is characterized by progressive formation of renal cysts which ultimately lead to a loss of renal function. Tolvaptan (a V2R antagonist) is currently the only effective treatment for preserving renal function in ADPKD. However, side-effects such as polyuria limit its tolerability and thereby the therapeutic potential. This study will test whether co-administration with hydochlorothiazide can improve V2RA efficacy (slowing kidney function decline) and tolerability (quality of life) in ADPKD. Approximately 300 patients will be enrolled.
Surgical hemostasis has become one of the fundamental principles for the advancement of surgery. The use of hemostatic agents is standard in many surgical specialties, although the lack of consensus or standardized classifications to determine intraoperative bleeding has led to their inappropriate selection on many occasions. The recommendations of international organizations highlight the need for a bleeding severity scale validated in clinical studies that allows selecting the hemostatic agent that best suits each case.
