NCT ID: NCT05079464 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Mild Cognitive Impairment

Exercise as a Primer for Brain Stimulation in Vascular Cognitive Impairment No Dementia (VCIND)

EXPRESS-V
Start date: November 22, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

People with vascular conditions are at risk of having memory problems, and these memory problems increase the risk for further cognitive decline. Brain stimulation has been used to improve mood and memory. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is believed to work best on brain cells that are active or "primed" before stimulation. The purpose of this study is to compare the effects of exercise and tDCS on memory performance in patients who have completed cardiac rehabilitation and are at risk of cognitive decline.

NCT ID: NCT05077748 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Obstructive Sleep Apnea

An 18-year Follow-up Study on OSA in a Population-based Cohort

Start date: October 20, 2021
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Our research team has established a polysomnography (PSG) quantified population-based paediatric sleep cohort in 2003 for a childhood OSA prevalence study. Subjects were recruited from 13 randomly selected primary schools. All subjects from this original cohort will be invited to join this 18-year follow-up study to repeat the following data collection: questionnaires, anthropometric measurement, sleep study, 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure (ABP) measurement, echocardiography and neurocognitive assessment.

NCT ID: NCT05053204 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Cognitive Impairments

Influence Factors and Cognitive Characteristics in Unipolar and Bipolar Depression:Based on the THINC-it Tool

Start date: May 15, 2021
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Cognitive impairment is the core symptom of unipolar and bipolar depression, which seriously affects the prognosis of the disease and the rehabilitation of social function. There is no unified conclusion in the field and severity of cognitive impairment, and the cause of cognitive impairment is unknown, which may be related to many factors. In this study, the THINC-it tool was used to study the characteristics of cognitive impairment in unipolar and bipolar depression by longitudinal follow-up, which provides a theoretical basis for the differential diagnosis of unipolar and bipolar depression. Early identification and intervention of risk factors can improve the prognosis of the disease.

NCT ID: NCT05048680 Recruiting - Aging Clinical Trials

Effect of Hypoxic Conditioning on Cerebrovascular Health in the Elderly

HYPOXAGE
Start date: October 13, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

In line with the ever-growing aging of Western populations, the development of preventive strategies to slow down the effects of aging on cardiovascular health represents a major challenge in order to preserve functional capacities and a sufficient quality of life in the elderly. The alteration of vascular function (at the cerebral and systemic level) with aging is an important feature in the clinical picture including a decrease in physical and cognitive capacities. Although physical activity is recognized as an essential means of combating the effects of aging, optimizing its effects by defining the most effective strategies of practice remains a key objective. Offering alternative interventions to exercise training is also necessary for people who are unwilling or unable to engage in a physical activity program. In this context, hypoxic conditioning, alone or in conjunction with rehabilitative exercise training, is a new therapeutic modality with strong preclinical validity, in particular from a cardiovascular standpoint, and used in other pathologies to improve cardiovascular function and exercise performance and quality of life. Our aim is, therefore, to investigate the effect of hypoxic conditioning (alone or in conjunction with exercise training) on cerebrovascular health in the elderly.

NCT ID: NCT05043454 Recruiting - Hypertension Clinical Trials

Improving Age-Related Cognitive Decline With Exercise in Hypertensive Older Adults

DECLARE
Start date: October 1, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The investigator aims to assess the extent to which a brief exercise intervention improves systemic growth factor concentrations, reverses loss of systemic vascular networks and hypertension, and by extension, improves neurocognition. To test the investigator's hypothesis that increased cardiovascular fitness will correlate with improved vascular density, the investigator proposes the innovative use of retinal density scans.

NCT ID: NCT05040217 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Mild Cognitive Impairment

A Clinical Trial of AAV2-BDNF Gene Therapy in Early Alzheimer's Disease and Mild Cognitive Impairment

Start date: February 7, 2022
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

This is a first-in-human clinical trial to test whether a protein administered into the brain continuously by gene therapy, Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF), will slow or prevent cell loss in the brains of people affected by Alzheimer's disease and Mild Cognitive Impairment. The protein may also activate cells in the brain that have not yet deteriorated. Gene therapy refers to the use of a harmless virus to have brain cells make the potentially protective protein, BDNF.

NCT ID: NCT05036538 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Postoperative Delirium

Decreasing Preoperative Stress to Prevent Postoperative Delirium and Postoperative Cognitive Decline in Cardiac Surgical Patients.

DESTRESS-SURG
Start date: July 27, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Patients undergoing cardiac surgery often complain of anxiety before a major operation and the resulting stress. This circumstance is a risk factor for mental problems that may occur after the operation (e.g., delirium or memory deficits). This study aims to prevent these discomforts by a preoperative relaxation intervention.

NCT ID: NCT05030285 Recruiting - Anxiety Clinical Trials

Telehealth Psychotherapy for Anxiety in Persons With Cognitive Impairment

Tele-CBT
Start date: September 21, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This project will pilot a tailored Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) intervention delivered via telehealth videoconferencing (Tele-CBT) to reduce anxiety in people living with cognitive impairment. A process evaluation will inform its feasibility and implementation in the community nation-wide.

NCT ID: NCT05029050 Recruiting - Delirium Clinical Trials

Dexmedetomidine or Clonidine Infusion for Prevention of Delirium After Open Heart Surgery

ALPHA2PREVENT
Start date: January 17, 2022
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

A parallel-group treatment, five-centre, participant and investigator masked, three-arm study to assess the safety and effectiveness of dexmedetomidine or clonidine infusion compared to placebo for the prevention of delirium and cognitive decline in male and female participants aged 70+ scheduled for open heart surgery.

NCT ID: NCT05023187 Recruiting - Aging Clinical Trials

Social and Cognitive Online Training: the SCOT Project

SCOT
Start date: January 19, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Social isolation and reduced involvement in cognitive activities are associated with repercussions on cognitive well-being and health status in elderly adults. In particular, loneliness and social isolation represent risk factors in favouring cognitive decline and dementia. The Social Cognition Online Training (SCOT) project aims to evaluate the beneficial effects of an online intervention on social-cognitive functioning in healthy elderly subjects.
