The purpose of this study is to compare the efficacy of photodynamic therapy with verteporfin (PDT) and IVTA vs triple therapy (TT) in patients with subfoveal choroidal neovascularization (CNV) secondary to age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The investigators designed a prospective, comparative, randomized, double blind, controlled study. 15 patients with classic subfoveal choroidal neovascularization secondary to age-related macular degeneration were randomized. Triple therapy can potentially offer a new treatment modality for choroidal neovascularization in patients with macular degeneration and other diseases.

Correlation Between Visual Field Defects on FORESEE HOME and on Optical Coherence Tomography in Choroidal Neovascularization Subjects

The FORESEE HOME is used in the recent years to detect Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) lesions. The device is capable of differentiation as to stages of AMD and early detection of changes including choroidal neovascularization (CNV) The Foresee HOME demonstrates a high level of sensitivity and specificity as to the different stages of AMD including newly diagnosed or early detection of CNV. The OCT May be use as well to identify choroidal neovascularization (CNV). Comparison between the two methods will allow better understanding of both devices. The FORESEE HOME can use as an assessment tool for the progression and success of the treatment given to AMD lesions. Therefore, evaluation the size and the location of the treated lesions may serve as an additional tool.

Intravitreal Adalimumab in Refractory Diabetic Retinopathy, Choroidal Neovascularization or Uveitis: A Pilot Study

Direct intravitreal administration of medication is the preferred method of treatment for uveitis and retinal vascular disorders. The eye is a self contained organ relatively isolated from the systemic circulation by the tight blood retinal barrier. Effective intraocular drug levels can be achieved with a much smaller amount of medication if injected intravitreally and this also results in minimal systemic exposure to the patient. Preliminary studies have shown that adalimumab may have a positive role in the management of uveitis in humans and can be an effective treatment intravitreally in animal models. No data has been published yet on intravitreal use of adalimumab in human subjects.

Does Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) or Complement Factor H Gene Polymorphism Play a Role in the Treatment Success With VEGF Inhibitors in Patients With Choroidal NeoVascularization (CNV)?

Age related macular degeneration (AMD) is a multifactorial disease with a strong genetic component. Most importantly a genetic polymorphism in the gene encoding for the complement factor H (CFH) has been recently identified which is highly associated with an increased risk of developing AMD. This Tyr402His polymorphism located on chromosome 1q31 has been implicated to play a role in the development of the disease. For this purpose a total of 200 patients with wet AMD will be included in the study. As described in detail below, the current study aims to identify potentially non-responders to anti-VEGF therapy based on genetic analysis of VEGF polymorphism and complement factor H polymorphism.
