View clinical trials related to Brain Concussion.
Filter by:Concussions are one of the most complex conditions to manage in sport medicine due to the individualized clinical presentation, caused by a complex neurometabolic cascade, and the lack of a diagnostic standard. There is currently no objective measurement for concussion and the reliance on subjective reporting and clinical judgement is imperfect. In previous clinical studies the investigators determined cutoff values of plasma phosphatidylcholines that provided strong indication that a concussion had occurred. Based on this data, the investigators have developed a custom assay, which will work together with a capillary blood collection device. The current clinical trial will be conducted in two parts. Part A will allow the investigators to determine precise AUC cut-off values for the propriety, novel custom assay, and in Part B the investigators will assess the safety and efficacy of this device for concussion diagnosis in adolescent athletes aged 13-17.
The main objective is to evaluate the feasibility and interest of setting up a protocol for the systematic measurement of the S100B protein in patients with mild traumatic brain injury admitted to the emergency room of Douai hospital in order to reduce the number of unnecessary brain scans. The main evaluation criterion is the percentage of patients admitted to the emergency department of Douai hospital for mild traumatic brain injury, whose protocol for the systematic measurement of the S100B protein would make it possible to avoid the realization of a brain scans for patients with a protein assay S100B ≤ 0.10 µg/L, carried out within 3h of the onset of MCT. The systematic dosage of the S100B protein in the context of mild traumatic brain injury still does not appear in the recommendations for good practice in 2021. This study will contribute to the reflection on the use of the S100B protein in the development of new recommendations for good practice of mild traumatic brain injury support.
The purpose of the study is to learn if Neuraceq™ (Florbetaben F 18 Injection) PET can detect changes in the brains of young athletes who sustained one or more concussions with or without persistent cognitive complaints at least 5 years after injury.
Our successful R01 discovered 1) the neural mechanistic difference between typically occurring convergence insufficiency (TYP-CI) and binocularly normal controls and 2) the underlying mechanism of office-based vergence and accommodative therapy (OBVAT) that is effective in remediating symptoms. Adolescent and young adult concussion is considered a substantial health problem in the United States where our team has shown that about half of patients with persistent post-concussion symptoms have convergence insufficiency (PPCS-CI), causing significant negative impact associated with reading or digital screen-related activities, and is believed to be one factor causing delayed recovery impacting return to school, sports, or work. The results of this randomized clinical trial will impact the lives of adolescents and young adults with PPCS-CI to guide professionals on how to manage and treat those with PPCS-CI by 1) comparing the differences between PPCS-CI and TYP-CI, 2) discovering the neural mechanism of OBVAT for PPCS-CI compared to standard-community concussion care, and 3) determining the effectiveness of 12 one-hour sessions compared to 16 one-hour sessions of OBVAT.
Background: Concussion affects around 25 000 people each year in Denmark. A large research initiative (GAIN 2.0) has been established, and the current study is a part of this initiative. Aims: 1. To develop and test the efficacy of a novel intervention for people with persistent post-concussional mild-to-moderate symptoms: "Get going After concussion Lite" (GAIN Lite). 2. To increase the knowledge about the target group by investigating the association of physical activity, digital behaviour, and symptom load. Methods: A randomized controlled trial, comparing GAIN Lite to enhanced usual care. 100 adults diagnosed with a concussion at hospitals in Central Denmark Region or referred from general practitioners will be recruited. GAIN Lite is a digital intervention, and the primary outcome is the severity of post-concussional symptoms. A prospective cohort study will be performed to investigate the association between physical activity, cognitive processing, and symptom load.
Study design: Randomized controlled trial Settings: Physiotherapy department of Allied hospital, Faisalabad Sample size: 27 in each group Control group receive: Routine physical therapy Experimental group receive: Routine physical therapy+ Sensorimotor stimulation
The Center for Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine (CNRM) Clinical Trials Unit has developed the first cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) digital therapeutic (DTx) mobile application to counteract depressive symptoms in military service members and veterans with a history of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). This trial will assess the efficacy of the novel CBT-DTx for depression following mTBI compared to an educational comparison DTx.
A recent randomized clinical trial (RCT) demonstrated large effects of hypnotic suggestion on working memory following acquired brain injury. However, no studies have investigated long-term effects (> 2 months) effects on return to work (RTW). Therefore the aim is in a RCT to study the effect of hypnotic suggestion on RTW in employed individuals with acquired brain injury or concussion, that were referred to an out-patient municipal vocational rehabilitation center in Denmark. Participants were randomized to a passive (treatment as usual), active comparison (a weekly treatment session of mindfullness-based stress reduction for four weeks) or intervention group (a weekly treatment session of targeted suggestion for four weeks). Intention-to-treat analysis of the hypnosis effect on return to work within six months follow-up will be performed. Results Participants (N=77) have accepted and participated in the study. Effect measures are to be analysed.
The investigators will carry out multi-center and large sample research based on the Chinese population, screen the optimal diagnostic and prognosis recognition biomarkers and analyze the diagnostic critical cutoff values in patients with mild to moderate traumatic brain injury, so as to provide a substantial basis for clinical diagnosis and prognosis recognition.
Mindfulness is a promising tool which may foster adaptative interpersonal qualities to reduce the risk of persistent post-concussion symptoms. The present feasibility study will customize and validate a mindfulness mobile smart-phone app easily accessible to youth and families. The study will also determine whether mindfulness training increases quality of life, reduces symptom burden and promotes neurophysiological recovery at 4 weeks post-injury in adolescents who were diagnosed with an acute concussion compared to a cognitive sham app + usual care.
