Efficiency and Satisfaction With Telephone Consultation in Neuro-urology: Experience of the COVID-19 Pandemic

Start date: March 16, 2020
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The COVID-19 pandemic has necessitated drastic measures in order to limit the spread of SARS-CoV-2. The stay home policies for the whole population and especially for frail patients and the express instruction to deprogram non-urgent consultations and interventions limited the clinic visits in neuro-urology department. In this context, telemedicine was seen as a pragmatic solution to provide follow-up care for our neurologic patients. Due to the delay in deploying telemedicine and the cognitive impairment of some of our patients, telephone consultation has been prioritized. The COVID-19 pandemic might be an opportunity to review and refine our practices in neuro-urology. For the follow-up of selected patients, telephone consultations may be efficient and cost effective. The aim of the study is to assess the efficiency and the satisfaction with telephone consultation for the physician and the patient. The study was conducted in a neuro-urology department of a university hospital in France. During the stay-home policies for the COVID-19 pandemic, all the scheduled medical visits were converted into telephone consultation. New patients weren't included. For each teleconsultation, the physician assess the duration of the consultation, the number of tries to join the patient, the efficiency of the consultation, the difficulty to obtain relevant information due to the phone way of the consultation and the lack of physical examination. On the next days, the patient was contacted by phone and was asked a) if he was satisfied of being phoned by the physician, b) if the teleconsultation was embarrassing, c) if he had enough time of teleconsultation d) if he got all the answers to his queries, e) if he would preferred to had a physical consultation f) to assessed the global satisfaction of the teleconsultation and g) if in the future, they may considered converting some clinic visits to teleconsultations. The physician and the patient assessed whether this teleconsultation has replaced a physical visit. The usual transport mode of the patient for a clinic visit and the need to take a day off for worker patients were recorded. The primary aim was to assess the efficiency and the satisfaction of the telephone consultation. The primary outcome was the evaluation of the efficiency of the telephone consultation by the physician on a numerical 10-points scale. The secondary outcome was the evaluation of the satisfaction of the telephone consultation by the patient on a numerical 10-points scale. Four hundred teleconsultations are scheduled for five physicians.

Reliability and Validity of The Turkish Version of the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy - Treatment Satisfaction - General Questionnaire

Start date: March 1, 2020
Phase:
Study type: Observational

In the evaluation of the services provided in hospitals in recent years, importance has been given to the measurements based on the perception of the patients. Today, the most frequently used criteria for this purpose are quality of life and patient satisfaction. The general opinion of the experts is that the information obtained with these criteria is valid and reliable. The researchers pointed out that patients who are dissatisfied with the health service provided comply with the recommendations of the healthcare personnel less and thus the primary and secondary preventive services are adversely affected.Although treatment satisfaction is a very important factor in terms of patient adherence to treatment, there is no valid and reliable scale in Turkish to evaluate this factor. This study was carried out to investigate the validity and reliability of The Turkish version of the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy - Treatment Satisfaction - General Questionnaire in the patients receiving health care.

NCT ID: NCT04146090 Completed - Quality of Life Clinical Trials

Low-pressure vs Standard-pressure in Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy

Start date: October 23, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Background. Many studies have demonstrated reduced postoperative pain in patients undergoing lower pneumoperitoneum pressure level during laparoscopic cholecystectomy. However, most of them has shown a high risk of bias and low or very low quality of evidence. Considering the need to evaluate, not only the postoperative pain, but the effect of anesthesia and surgery on patient recovery and satisfaction, we have designed a prospective, randomised and double-blinded study to evaluate the quality of recovery, using the Quality of Recovery Questionnaire (QoR-40), in patients undergoing LC under low-pressure or standard pressure pneumoperitoneum. Methods. Eighty patients aged 18 to 65 years of age will be randomised into 2 groups: LP (low-pressure - 10mmHg) or S (standard - 14 mmHg) enrolled in the study. Anesthesia will be induced with remifentanil, propofol and rocuronium and the maintenance will be achieved with sevoflurane and remifentanil Anesthesiologists and surgeons will not have access to insufflation pressure display. The primary outcome will be assessed using the Quality of Recovery Questionnaire (QoR-40) which is a 40-item quality of recovery scoring system. In addition, the intraoperative rocuronium consumption, time to eye opening (time from the discontinuation of anesthetics to eye opening), post-operative nausea and vomiting, pain score, analgesic use, and length of PACU stay (time to Aldrete score ≥ 9) will be recorded.

Assessment of Patient Satisfaction of Quality of Health Care Service and Treatment

Start date: April 9, 2019
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Patient satisfaction has become an important issue in the health services evaluation. It is equally important to medical results and economical costs of the provided services. Cancer is a common health problem frequently associated with pain that deserves patient satisfaction services. Assessment of patients' satisfaction in this sector of diseases is a cornerstone for optimum pain management. Recently, patient satisfaction is defined as personal evaluation of the experienced care, denoting both patient characteristics and care realities. There are many questionnaires to assess patient satisfaction for health care service and treatment. For health service assessment, Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire Short Form (PSQ-18) is a commonly used one with high reliability. It includes seven dimensions of patient satisfaction which are general satisfaction, interpersonal manner, communication, technical quality, time spent with doctor, financial aspects, and accessibility and convenience. With regard to patient satisfaction about the provided treatment, Pain Treatment Satisfaction Scale (PTSS) is routinely applied. It is well known that any health care system needs continuous evaluation both by the care givers and patients in order to improve the quality of service. Of course, it is a continuous process with much variability. There are many studies about patient satisfaction in cancer patients., however this study is the first in Delta region, Egypt. From this point, the aim of this study is to evaluate the quality offered by health care services and the treatment satisfaction among cancer patients attending the outpatient pain management clinics, Mansoura, Egypt in two university centers.
