Filter by:The goal of this clinical trial is to test the PainSMART-strategy in a population of patients seeking primary care physiotherapy for pain related to muscles, joints and bones, so called musculoskeletal pain. The PainSMART-strategy consists of a digital educational film (entitled Be PainSMART:er) and a discussion based on the film at the initial physiotherapy consultation. The main questions this clinical trial aims to answer are: 1. Can the PainSMART-strategy update knowledge and beliefs about pain and aid early stage self-management of pain for participants seeking primary care physiotherapy with benign musculoskeletal pain? 2. Can the PainSMART-strategy improve evaluations of the initial physiotherapy consultation for both the patient and physiotherapist? Participating patients will be randomised into two groups. One group (intervention group) will receive the PainSMART-strategy as an adjunct to the current physiotherapy care pathway for musculoskeletal pain. The other group (control group) will follow the current physiotherapy care pathway. The two groups will be followed and compared over three months. Self-report questionnaires will be collected during the three-month period to analyse what effects the PainSMART-strategy can have on the following health outcomes: - Pain levels - Beliefs that one can remain active despite pain - Knowledge about pain - Worry about the seriousness of the pain - Expectations regarding recovery - Use of pain self-management strategies - Levels of physical activity - Absence from work due to pain - Number of referrals made for scans or x-rays, or to a specialist, for pain - Number of healthcare visits for pain during the trial period. Participating patients (both groups) and physiotherapists will also complete questionnaires to evaluate the effect of the PainSMART-strategy on the initial physiotherapy consultation.
Currently, an ongoing generational shift of the dental community in Sweden originates from an increased number of retiring dentists. Meanwhile, a declining number of dental professionals puts a strain on the care system and reduces the availability of dental care to patients in need of treatment. With fewer experienced dentists, available to guide newly graduated dentists, an increased number of referrals to specialist care units might be a consequence. E.g. referrals to oral and maxillofacial departments originating from a need of assistance in more advanced cases of assessments, treatment planning and therapies. The decreasing number of dentists is also possible to negatively affect the recruitment to specialized dental units, which in turn further decreases treatment availability. When the need for dental care exceeds the capacity of the dental care providers, a possible solution might be to minimize the number of referrals possible to treat in general dentistry, thus prioritize patients truly in need of specialist care. Hence, a reduced waiting time and improved accessibility to an adequate treatment. The aim of this study is to explore the suitability of referrals concerning exodontia to the departments of oral and maxillofacial surgery in southern Sweden. The primary objective is to assess the level of difficulty in referrals on dental extractions. Secondary objectives are assessments of outcome from treatment and comparison of the suggested treatment of the referral with the outcome. The hypothesis is that the level of difficulty of the required treatments in referrals to oral and maxillofacial departments in southern Sweden is low and constitutes a contributing factor to prolonged waiting queues in specialized dentistry.
This study aimed to evaluate conditions and indications in which a training and research hospital directs outpatient and inpatient consultations to an oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic and consider the expectations of physicians in the treatment and management of various conditions.
By introducing pulse oximetry, with or without clinical decision support algorithms, to primary care facilities in India, Kenya, Senegal and Tanzania, the Tools for Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (TIMCI) project aims to contribute to reducing morbidity and mortality for sick children under-five while supporting the rational and efficient use of diagnostics and medicines by healthcare providers. The multi-country, multi-method evaluation aims to generate evidence on the health and quality of care impact, operational priorities, cost and cost-effectiveness of introducing these tools to facilitate national and international decision-making on scale-up.
We want in this study to investigate the cost-effectiveness and waiting time of direct electronic referral and booking of outpatient surgery compared to the traditional patient pathway where the patient is seen at the outpatient clinic prior to surgery.
There is a great variability in the different primary care teams referral rate. And variability means inappropriateness somewhere in the process of care. The most important determinants of the variability are the attitude and knowledge of the professional, the existence and availability of evidence, the resources available and the professionals practice style. To improve the knowledge of the professionals could be a way to decrease the variability. Because of this, we have the aim to determinate the effectiveness of an educational intervention to improve the primary care teams from the city of Barcelona referral rate.
