Filter by:There are high rates of co-occurring posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among patients receiving treatment for substance use disorder (SUD). PTSD and SUD should be treated simultaneously, but adults in SUD treatment are often not assessed for PTSD nor offered PTSD-based interventions. One of the reasons for reluctance in offering trauma focused treatment is increased risk of drop out. PTSD and related emotion dysregulation are related to elevated psychological burden, higher dropout rates and increased risk of relapse. this is a feasibility study, where the plan is to integrate a combination of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy for Substance Use Disorder (DBT-SUD skills) a therapy targeting difficulties in emotion regulation and Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) a trauma focused therapy, for patients with co-occurring PTSD symptoms into standard SUD treatment . The plan is to assess its potential benefits by assessing whether adding this combination to standard SUD treatment is relevant, feasible, acceptable, and safe. Treatment outcomes are 1) Prevalence of PTSD, suicidal behaviour, and self-harm, as well as the severity of difficulties in emotion regulation and emotional avoidance among patients (N approx. = 100) in inpatient treatment for SUD. 2) Change post-treatment and at 3 and 12 months follow up, from baseline in PTSD symptom severity, depressive symptoms, emotion regulation, emotion avoidance, and experience of shame. 3) Rates of dropout and relapse compared to previous rates. This project can increase knowledge about psychological mechanisms in co-occurring PTSD and SUD and improve the quality of treatment for this vulnerable patient population.
The study aims to 1) improve the emotional regulation strategies of children in difficulty in Shenzhen, and 2) develop and publish a set of evidence-based intervention manuals for professional use. Based on the intervention manual design of the researchers' previous study conducted in Hong Kong, the current research revised the intervention manual to adapt to the context of mainland China. This study adopts a randomized wait-list control trial design. The researchers aim to recruit 200 children in difficulty aged 8 to 14 as participants and randomly assign them to an experimental and a wait-list control group with a ratio of 3:2. Each participant will attend four sessions of intervention and one booster session, and each session requires around 1.5 to 2 hours to complete. The participants will complete assessments before the first session of the intervention (T1), immediately after the fourth session of the intervention (T2), and one month after the completion of the intervention (T3). A qualitative assessment will also be conducted after the booster session.
Deliberate self-harm (DSH) is a prevalent behaviour among adolescents but there is no current recommendation for an efficacious treatment. Emotion regulation group therapy (ERGT) is a brief treatment for DSH with a well-documented utility and feasibility in the adult population, and an adapted version for adolescents may provide equal benefits for adolescents, provided adjustments to prevent or decrease social contagion are present. A quantitative feasibility open trial (N=20) followed up by a qualitative interview study will examine the feasibility, acceptability and preliminary effect of ERGT for adolescents.

This two-armed randomized controlled trial investigates the efficacy of a web-based emotion regulation intervention in a transdiagnostic sample. The sample includes participants diagnosed with anxiety disorders, depression, eating disorders, borderline personality disorder, and healthy controls without a current psychiatric diagnosis. Participants will be randomly assigned to either the intervention group, receiving a web-based emotion regulation program, or a waitlist control group, which will have delayed intervention access after eight weeks. The intervention is grounded in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), featuring everyday emotion regulation exercises, and psychoeducation delivered through video and audio files. Outcome measures include emotion regulation abilities, well-being, anxiety, depression, eating disorder symptoms, personality pathology, and self-esteem, evaluated at four and eight weeks post-baseline.
Students within post-secondary education settings are experiencing increasing stress, distress, and mental health difficulties. Many post-secondary education settings have identified student mental health and wellbeing as a priority and yet are struggling to adequately meet the needs of students. This has led to exploring whether technology can be used to help promote mental health and wellbeing among students. The JoyPop app is one mobile mental health app with a growing evidence base. It was developed to support improved emotion regulation - a key challenge among students struggling with distress and mental health difficulties. Using a randomized controlled trial (RCT) design, the primary objective of this research is to determine the effectiveness of the JoyPop app in improving emotion regulation among post-secondary students when compared to no intervention. The secondary objectives are to: (1) Assess change in mental health, wellbeing, and resilience between students in each condition to better understand the app's broader impact; (2) Conduct an economic analysis to determine whether receiving the app reduces other health service use and associated costs; (4) Assess students' perspective on the quality of the JoyPop app.
emoWELL is a serious game, that is, a video game designed to inform and train in skills and competencies in a more dynamic way. emoWELL focuses on understanding and developing healthy emotional regulation strategies to improve well-being.

The primary aim of the proposed Randomised Control study is to investigate the effects of a socially assisted robot (i.e. Purrble) on emotional regulation difficulties (measured by DERS8) with young LGBTQ+ people who have self-harmful (with or without suicidal intention) (in comparison to a wait-listed control). Secondary aims include investigating the effects of the Purrble on young people's self-harmful thoughts, symptoms of anxiety and depression, alongside quantitative and qualitative (interviews) measures of engagement with the intervention.
